UEFA 2020 EUROPEAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS ("EURO 2020")

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is in the process of bidding to become one of the 13 Host Countries for EURO 2020. Yes, it is our aspiration not only to compete in the competition, but to be a host nation!

EURO 2020 will be the 60th anniversary of the competition, and UEFA have decided to celebrate the occasion by staging the tournament in 13 different cities across Europe. If our bid is successful, four matches will be played at the Millennium Stadium, and a further four official Fan Zones will be created across Wales.

We firmly believe that UEFA's decision to stage the EURO 2020 tournament across Europe provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Wales to be involved in staging one of the world's biggest sporting events. Wales' involvement in staging such a prestigious tournament would have a significant impact on football within our country both on and off the field of play and would result in a long lasting football legacy.

As with all bids, competition is going to be tough. A total of 32 different countries have expressed interest in staging the tournament - that said we are confident of submitting a strong bid and as the third oldest football association in the World, we believe Wales' time has come!

However given that other countries will make similar pleas to UEFA, we need to double our efforts and convey the passion and pride of Wales' football supporters.

For the FAW to be successful, we need your help in pledging your support for our EURO 2020 bid. We therefore ask the whole of Wales to come together and show their support by following the link below

We would appreciate your response by Friday 11th April. As part of our bid submission to UEFA next month, we will provide details of the number of supporters that have backed our bid. All respondents will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a signed Wales shirt.

Thank you for your support!

I cant support this mate, goes against everything I believe
about international football and what qualifying for a major tournament stands for.

Tournaments should be held in one country, maybe two. Its the dream. It might not mean much
to England, France, Italy etc but its still a dream for many to see our country in a major tournament.

This idea is a complete farce imo, if this was the only time Wales qualified for a major
tournament in my life time I would feel robbed and absolutely gutted as the dream for me is to
see us play in a real tournament, not some fancy dan thought up idea where someone in the same
tournament is playing almost in another continent.

It is also going to cost a fortune for fans the further you get.

Hope you see my point of view mate, its nothing personal.

I attended 2 meetings in Switzerland opposing the concept with representatives of football supporters from all over Europe with the FSE, but 52 out of the then 53 member countries voted for it so it was passed.

Nothing we can do about that now but at least there is a chance some of the tournament can be here in Cardiff, it will benefit South Wales and we may as well try to get it, or it will go elsewhere and we have to travel again, we will never hold a tournament in Wales in my opinion other than being part of this.

Of course I respect your decision and fully understand your reasons.

I don't see your point at all.

The competition is in round one - the groups - as well as 'the finals' - so what's the difference if you get bye to a later round ?
You get the same thing in the FA Cup etc.

Robbed and Gutted ?.... :?

The cost for fans the further you get in the competition ? Well let's hope we lose in round one and save our money and watch everyone else on the telly.

I want us to get as far as we can....I saw us against Yugoslavia in the quarter finals in the 70s and what a great occasion it was. nobody cared that we had not won a group to get there. Those were the rules and the same for everyone.

I want to see us play in the later rounds again.
