Jones and Malky got similar results, both achieving playoff places and cup runs. However, I think Malky brought in players with a better character and made us tougher to beat, particularly at home. Although Malky had the backing Jones never had last season, I don't think Jones would have won the league title by 8 points if he had an identical budget to Malky. It's a tough vote, but Malky just gets the edge for me.

But I go with Jones. MM was easier to like but that isn't enough. He was a good manager no doubt - one of our best ever. But Jones is ahead of him solely based on what he had to work under for 6 or so years. He dragged us nowhere to one of the best Championship sides, just a shame he could never get the job done.

what job didnt he get done though.?
we became a serious club...3 Wembley visits..and for the previous 30 years id have been happy with an auto windscreens final..would MM even have considered coming here had it not been for the clubs profile being raised so much during the Jones years?.because prior to DJ ,how much of a better prospect did we look than Watford.
strange thing is,he gets called moans, mostly by the biggest moaners at our club.

Getting promoted obviously. Of course him getting us where he did prior to Malky coming in is considered a good enough job if you look at the things he dealt with but the squad was talented and we flirted with the automatic spots and look like possibly doing it before we just hit a slump and then messed it up in the Play-offs.

I dont buy this bollocks about 10 senior players, if it was in the middle of the season fair enough, but 10 senior players at the start of pre-season, some of whom are the best in the division, is great for a manager, you dont have to get rid of the dead wood, plus a chequebook to spend on players you want. Maybe not as much as the promotion year but Kenny Miller was brought in on 25k a week, Cowie, Gunnarson, Taylor.etc. they all come for the money we were offering.
That said, in Malkys defence, I do feel if Jones had a little bit more Malky about him with regards player discipline he could very well have crossed the line. However, theres no doubt in my mind if Jones had been given the riches Malky had in our promotion year we would have done it, and done it in style.
On a side note I think Ole is going to surpass them both if hes given chance to finish the job.

the vast majority of the "decent players" had left.
When dj took over he couldn't fill a bench on our tour of Scotland and the previous years team were in a relegation fight.
well when Mackay took over, he did to have enough players to get a starting XI together. The previous team should never have been in the dog fight it was in either, which is why Lennie was sacked.![]()
