BOYCOT FRIENDLIES??

Thu Mar 27, 2014 1:43 pm

The issue of protesting the change of our identity has obviously come under a lot of scrutiny this week and last, and while the protest of saturday was the best of its kind to date, it can't be ignored that is does re-enforce the idea that around 10% (probably more like 15%) oppose the rebrand enough to go out and march.

the obvious answer, as many have said, is to show Tan an empty stadium (vote with your wallets as they say). Now the obvious response from many is that; whilst we do not support the rebrand, the vast majority of us still support the team...regardless of the owner and we wouldn't want anything to have a negative effect on the season.

With this in mind i put forward that we should consider boycotting all pre season friendlies for the following reasons:

-they are little more than training matches, and serve no purpose other than to get the team ready for the season
-many of the games are half empty anyway...with mainly "hardcore" fans in attendence
-it would make little difference to the players if the games were entirely empy as, like mentioned before they are just training matches
-it would show tan that people will not blindly put money in to the club when they don't agree what has happened to it
-it has no adverse effect on the sides chances either in the prem or the championship

I'm not saying this should replace marches or scarfs up at 19:27 (or 19:08 which to me would make more sence) but maybe along side it?

anyway...i've been reading this board long enough to know what comes next....ABUSE AWAY! :laughing6:

Boycotting friendlies won't make a difference, like you said they're just training matches that mean nothing. The club won't care as the majority (including myself) don't go to friendlies anyway. If we were to boycott a game, it would have to be a competitive game as that's when the club really needs us to support the team.

im not saying it'll make a huge difference. But if it wont make a difference at all because its not a competative fixture then neither will marches chanting or anything else. My point is we should do ANYTHING we can...unless it effects the team

Its a rubbish point lets be honest.

i feel like i should clarify again....THIS IS NOT THE ONLY THING WE SHOULD DO...but marching on its own is clearly not going to be enough, nor will boycotting friendlies, nor will scarfs. but all of these things (and maybe a few more opposing actions) will do a better job of showing our opposition

Not lining Tans pockets, already paid for my ST well before I marched last Saturday and not renewing next season.

YOU are missing the point. The stadium is practically empty for friendlies anyway so a few thousand "boycotters" is A) going to have no visual impact and B) The club lose pennies in the grand scheme of things.

A far better visual demonstration would be to do what Valencia did against Swansea and leave the stand and go under the concourse as a show of discontent, or even just turn your back on him whilst holding up the scarfs.
