Arrogance of refs and refs association

Mon Mar 24, 2014 5:24 pm

Refs come in for a fair bit of stick and ours against Liverpool was no exception and rightly so as he was diabolical. It should come as no surprise though when they can virtually do what they want and are not held accountable, an example of this is Marriner and his almighty cock up against Arsenal when he sent the wrong player off despite the guy (chamberlain) admitting to the ref that it was him in that commited the hand ball and not Gibbs. What did the ref do, he just ignored him and sent the other guy off anyway.

The refs association PGMOL then do what, reprimand him, suspend him, discipline him, in fact no, they defended Marriner and let him carry on reffing premiership games, no wonder the refs are awful.

It happens all the time and this season we have had some very poor decisions. For example, when Anthony Taylor allowed Eto's goal against us, Rooney not being sent off when he should have been. Gerrard could have been sent off on Saturday. Then there are the penalty decisions. It cannot be said that a dozen or so refs in the Premiership are all incompetent. We have had at least a dozen excellent penalty shouts this season and not one has been awarded.

Even after the above examples, those refs went on to get a game the following Saturday. How often gave you see a ref being constructively criticised by their own body overseeing them. It just does not happen. There are clear arguments for the use of technology if the refs cannot perform to the highest levels. It is a difficult job but some of the decisions that refs give ir do not give on a regular basis is unbelievable. We have had Caulker/Campbell being wrestled to the ground in games against Liverpool and West Ham and no penalty awarded, the slightest touch on Joe Allen by a Man Utd player and a pen was awarded. I cannot work out how the refs are not consistent.

One of the worst things about Marriners decision was that Chamberlain clearly told him that he was sending off the wrong person but Marriner ignored him and still sent Gibbs off.

Exactly they are not punished for their mistakes , if you made a cock up as big as that in any other job you'd sacked. It's f*cking ridiculous and quite frankly the standard of refereeing in the premier league this season is some of the worst i've seen across any football league.
