Parking tickets at Costco

Sun Mar 23, 2014 1:46 pm

I've ignored a few parking tickets received previously without any comeback. But recently have received a reminder from "Roxburghe" chasing payment and now another chaser from their solicitors "Gladstones". Anyone else had experience of this and any advice? Will these solicitors take it further??

Just a quick warning.

The way the company chases payment has changed.

If you look around the car parks the signage has changed it is much more legalese with statements to the affect that you should be aware that your are now on private property.

It looks like they have brought in some legal minds and you are more at fault if you read the signs and ignore them.

Correspondence is now direct with solicitors giving the parking company a bit more oomph when it comes to recouping money.

Read the Solicitor's letter carefully to see if it says you MIGHT be prosecuted rather than WILL

Thoughts are that it is still not worth them pursuing the matter, as no monies have technically been lost by your overstaying your welcome. Basically, they can only recoup (in Court) the monies lost, so it wouldn't amount to much. The problem would be if any 'costs' were awarded

Being honest, any advice given on here would have to be considered 'tenuous' now they appear to have changed tactics, but my thoughts are that they are still simply trying to 'scare' people into paying up

Good luck for a successful conclusion :ayatollah:

As its a civil matter, costs in small claims are paid by each party themselves, therefore a company wont take you to court, pay around £265 in costs to be awarded £60 parking fine....IF they can prove who the driver was.

I dealt with Gladstones a few years back as Ive had so many tickets from down CCS. I ignore letters and I had a fee phonecalls which were either put down or left next to my TV for a while.

Its changed since the start of the year since there are clear signs up. I walked past the guys who were looking at live camera feeds (they were sitting by the siude of Greggs) and let me tell you there is no doubt they can prove who the drivers are looking at their footage.

Personally think ur fked since the change to their 'plan' and the new signs.

They wont take you to court it will cost them money even if they win.

They prey on people like yourself who shit themselves with official looking letters. Tickets off private firms are merely invoices and are unenforceable. There are plenty of advice sites out there. Moneysavingexpert has a whole section on it. Each to their own, if someone is worried then pay it. Personally, I never have nor will I, no matter how they word their signs or letters.
