CAN WE OUTSCORE OUR RELEGATION RIVALS ?

Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:39 am

Prior to our win over Fulham we had failed to score in four Premier League games against Swansea, Aston Villa, Hull and Tottenham.

The Spurs game provided me with hope that Ole was starting to get his tactics correct and improvements were obvious to the previous three games.

In our last three games we have scored seven goals, Fulham (3), Everton (1), Liverpool (3), we have crunch games coming up that we must win if we hope to survive this in this unrelenting division and going into these relegation six pointers the positives are that we are now finding the back of the net.

Our defensive worries have not disappeared and it may just be that we will have to have the 'we will score one more than you' attitude in the upcoming games.

It is going to be tense and not good for the ticker but it could become very exciting.

Carl, I can never see us making up the terrible goal difference with have compared to our rivals.

Yes we can def score goals and fair play thats what is happening lately, but and a big but we concede way to many which is a major problem, that could be our downfall.

Tighten up our defence and we can stay up

We definitely have the potential to score goals but we aren't great at making the most of every opportunity that comes our way.
The next few games will test which of the players have both character and nerve under pressure.

We don't need to out score our rivals, we need to win 4 games and 1.0 will do each time.
It's too late to worry about GD

Carl, I think we can score goals because Ole has allowed the players to push forward and "have a go", whereas Malky's game was built on being tight in midfield and at the back

Recent games have given me hope that the "Great Escape" can be done, so long as we can tighten up at the back and stop teams playing around us and walking the ball into the net

Marshall may well be Superman, but our defenders sometimes carry Kryptonite and even he gets affected by that!

Confidence, a vocal support and a little luck CAN see us to safety, but as you rightly say "it will not be good for the old ticker!" :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I weren't talking about GD, I mean we will concede so can we score enough goals to win the games :ayatollah:

Hopefully now Campbell as got the goal his play warranted he can bang a couple more in. There looks to be more attacking threat over the last couple of games. Don't know the injury situation but you only had to look at the bench to see what ole wants it's all forward orientated. Work needs to be done on the defence as some of the defending is diabolical.

There's not much else we can do with the defense. Our players are just useless cunts. 5 at the back should've been enough but nope, still useless cunts who can't mark their men. The problem is us playing Declan John at LB. He's too inexperienced, and Katherine and Fabio should be our players there end of.

We're fucked defensively whether you like it or not. We simply can't change our GD so right now it's meaningless. We just have to hope Marshall does his job rather than standing still sometimes wondering why his defense isn't doing their job.

Scoring is our only way of staying up plain and simple. Everyone else is too useless to do anything.

Sorry Carl my mistake.

I can't see us winning the required games unless we keep a few clean sheets. Unlikely.

Goal difference could come into effect when compared to teams like :

Fulham -40
City -32, hopefully 3 or 4 wins and a draw or two will improve that.
Sunderland -18, have to play 6 games against top 7 teams, so their GD is likely to plummet to possibly worse than ours.
Palace -20, very tight defence under Pulis, but have to play 4 games against Chelsea, Man C, Liverpool and Everton, so their GD could become worse than ours.
Norwich -22, even though they are on 32 points, they will do well to get more than 3 more points. Away form is poor, Jacks and Fulham away, WBA at home before their nightmare run in of 4 games against top 7 teams.

All other teams in relegation battle have far superior GD than City and agree that we will have to get a point more than the likes of WBA, Swansea or West Ham.

Can we out score or rivals? No!

The GD thing is a red herring. Unless we plan to put 20 past WBA, this is going to be the millstone around our necks. We can't rectify the GD, but we can get points if the goal difference from now on is positive every game. It's no good scoring 3 goals when you get beaten 4-3. On the other hand, you need the odd last minute decider to go our way.

What we are talking about here is timing! We scored 3 against Liverpool ANC took nothing. We scored 3 against Man C and took the lot.

I have little doubt City will score a few goals in the remaining fixtures save Chelsea but have equal doubt they will concede more if Cala plays. He is hopeless.

Really hope Noone is fit & Zaha gets more game time as he does create openings.

Mutch has to be given a free role to drift behind the striker, but what is of concern is the lack of City bodies in the box when the break.

How many times v LFC did John/Bellamy break down the left, but nobody bar Campbell was in the box? Jones has to start as a target for balls into the box.

Kim is way off the pace, and strength for this level.

Don't need a better gd if we are clear of the drop on points..but I understand where your coming from.

Our gd will improve between now and the end of the season can't say that for all the teams around us

I think you're right Carl. Can't see us keeping a clean sheet so I think we will need to score at least two goal per game. Like you say exciting games ahead :ayatollah:
