I counted yesterdays protest marchers.

Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:24 am

I know this isn't going to be a popular post but as a really committed City fan I just wanted to inject a realistic view of the numbers in yesterdays march.

I didn't walk the walk, mainly because, even though I'd like City to play in blue, I was worried that some fans, possibly fuelled with drink, would take the chance to make it a match against Tan and I don't think that's a solution we need just now.

Anyhow I waited close to the supporters club office to lend my applause to the finishing marchers and I also decided to do a head count. Obviously I didn't count every single person but took an average of how many were passing me over a given period and working from there. I think my numbers would be as close as anyone else's, particularly the press and media who take great delight in reporting via comments like 'many thousands marched' etc.

I reckon around 1200 went past me. If I allow an error of another 300 then the total looked to me to be about 1500 tops and defo not the 5000 I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

That's an honest opinion and not meant as any slight on our fans but just a genuine reflection on what I saw.

It was way over 1500, closer to 3,000 but not 5,000 that some have mentioned. Its irrelevant anyway as it went really well and looked the part. The inside of the ground was really impressive on 19:27 and hopefully that will continue into every game.

Re: I counted yesterdays protest marchers.

Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:35 am

I shouted out "if it wernt for red we would be dead" and got a few strange looks.I cant work out why all those supporters that did the protest also go to the games? You hate Tan and the rebrand but still go!

Re: I counted yesterdays protest marchers.

Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:39 am

I agree about the scarves inside the ground, they looked great. The only observartion I'd make there is that by tying it to 19.27 it never really happened again with the same effect. It might be better to associate it with a particular song and then it could be repeated several times with great effect.

Only thing that spoilt the scarves was that ultra negative Tan's a wanker song. That's never going to change his mind.

Re: I counted yesterdays protest marchers.

Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:39 am

I saw the march, there's no denying it was 2,500 at the most-10% ,not enough to bother vt.

Now people can bandy silly figures around all they like but 2,500 is about the right figure.

inside the ground on 19-27 looked alright

Why should I stop going because of one little prick and his ego, I will be here long after he's gone.

Are you happy to play in Red then?

I would say there was 1500 outside Napier . Add a few on from the ninian and probably around 2000 is the correct number . Which is very good , no need to exaggerate numbers :ayatollah:

Absolutely not. Police figures state just over 4k. I'd rather rely on those numbers than your rough estimate.

I don't think that's true. What would happen if people started to sing something in favour of our team who play in red.

My points not to stop people singing what they want but to highlight the negativity and there's no getting away from the word stupidity of supporters thinking they can change someones mind by abusing them.

If we'd gone about it in a more intellegent way from the beginning we might have had Tan on our side by now.

I don't know... But they would have a right to sing it if that is what they wanted. Which is my point. :thumbright:

Lets be honest. The organisers said thats what the police said. The police havent said anything officially. I was there and cant believe that figure. It doesnt matter anyway as it was a great sight and gotthe message heard.

That's got to be a first.... Barry Chuckle supporting the views of the Old Bill.

I can think of a few reasons why the police would exagerate the numbers a bit.

I'm telling you I work with figures and I pretty much counted them!

I'd say that police who are experienced in these situations would be a far more reliable source than someone who has slated the march all week on here.

Police stated it was. Now that is an actual fact.

The wanker song was not well supported, from where I was sitting which is behind tan you could hardly hear it, it's only because I know the song that I knew what was being sung, people sat around me were looking at each other asking what was being sung so I'm sure Mr VT didn't hear it anyhow!!

Show me a quote where I slated the march .
I was and still am in favour of well organised demonstrations . I slated the last ones because they were just a piss up .

Also show me an official police quote ? Not a quote of somebody telling everyone a police man said it was !

You've defo got me wrong there and need to read the start of this thread again. I would have been on the march but couldn't because I was worried about the negative nature of some of our fans. Don't try and write me off because I offered an alternative view to yours. I haven't made anything up on this thread. I just want cardiff to survive as a club (a Premier League club). All those who bang down on the reasoned voice never offer a viable alternative to Tan's money. Like it or not we could go out of existence due to the ill thought out actions of a minority.

Take it as a sign they are worried Annis.

Some of the posts on here last night trying to belittle the effort put in has been pathetic. It's the same posters reverting to pedantic statements. Roath Magic came out with a classic when I informed him the authorities, police, numbered the march at over 4000. His reply was the police always exaggerate and consider other factors like shoppers who get dragged into such marches. How many shops are there along Sloper Road. The guy thinks we take him serious but in reality he comes out with such statements that are unbelievable that it reminds you of the old man sitting in the corner of a pub because he keeps going on about war stories. Just smile, pat them on the head and leave them in their fantasy world alone.

I'm 57 and no doubt been supporting Cardiff since before you were born. Unless you can genuinely admit to being older than 17.

Obviously your ambition is to see city playing Barry Town ..... but wearing blue of course.

No doubt there'd be room in the squad for you as well.

There are enough people on here who know me in real life and will be laughing at your post here.

If you would have taken the time to look at my profile instead of letting your anger post for you then you would have discovered I am not far behind you in the years stake.

I have actually seen City play in Barry at Jenner Road and have done the Hartlepool Rochdale grounds although I am not one of the famous 9.
