Why can't the players see what we see?

I just can't understand how the players could allow Liverpool so much space and time after we have taken the lead twice. Several of us could see the Liverpool first and second goals coming by watching the build-up play, but the players weren't stepping it up to prevent the inevitable from happening.
If we can see it on the terraces, why can't the players?
