Cardiff to beat Liverpool 2.0 says Lawro

Sat Mar 22, 2014 7:18 am

Former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Cardiff City vs. Liverpool and attempts to predict the result...

Ex-Anfield centre-back turned media pundit Mark Lawrenson has expressed his thoughts ahead of Liverpool's Barclays Premier League trip to struggling Cardiff City on Saturday.

This will be the first league meeting between the two in Wales since August 1959 when Cardiff recorded their fifth straight home league victory (3-2).

Recent history isn't so kind to the Bluebirds though with Liverpool winning 3-1 at Anfield earlier this season and edging the 2012 Capital One Cup final on penalties.

Unsurprisingly Lawrenson, writing in his regular 'Lawro Predicts' column for the BBC, expects another victory for the in-form Merseysiders this weekend.

Here's what he had to say in full...

"Cardiff were unlucky at Everton last weekend. They thought they had got a very good point but when you're down at the bottom of the league, these things happen to you.

"Liverpool at the moment are by far and away the best team in the league. The football they've been playing is breathtaking - the pace at which they break and attack. If they go and attack Cardiff, I expect them to win convincingly.

"They can win the title but do I think they will? No, I think Manchester City will.

"Manager Brendan Rodgers has had a very good season. Regardless of what happens in the last few games, they will be in the Champions League. That will help him attract better players. Liverpool are only going to get stronger, but so are Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

"Cardiff won't stay up. In five or 10 years when you look at the history of Cardiff, the day they sacked Malky Mackay will be a major decision. Good luck to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But he's never managed in the Premier League before. It's so difficult if your team is fighting against relegation to be able to manage at that level."

Lawro's prediction: 0-2

Even if it comes off it looks like his predictions are a bit on the iffy side. Make enough predictions and you will get it right on occasion then just bury your failures like many a gambler I have known. :(

Re: MATCH THREAD " EVERTON V CARDIFF CITY " MATCH THREAD
Lawro reckons it'll be 2-0, said that the wheels come off our side too easily. He's right on the latter point but hopefully we can take advantage of Everton's FA Cup loss and push for a draw. Would be perfectly happy with a boring 0-0 game

Saying that I misread that first post he most often says we lose so perhaps he's changed his tune. We shall see, a point would do against Liverpool and its not impossible! :ole: :ayatollah:

If Ole has got them up for this game and we take any chances we get, then let's hope for a draw. Anything more will be miraculous. A so-so performance will see a Liverpool team (who have a lot of impressive away performances under their belt) run rampage!

This must be the worst post I have ever done! I shouldn't attempt to do posts when I have just woken up. Lawro is obviously a scouse tw@t who says we are going to lose every time. I just hope we prove him wrong! :ole: :ayatollah:
