Fabio Da Silva says Cardiff City players must ask: what can we bring to the Premier League fight?

Cardiff City full-back Fabio da Silva has insisted the time has come for every player in the Bluebirds dressing room to question their personal contribution to the club’s ongoing Premier League survival battle.

The young Brazilian, who joined the club from Manchester United in January, believes Cardiff, who remain second from bottom of the table and three points from safety, cannot afford to target specific matches – they have eight left to save themselves – and must view every encounter as vital.

“What we all have to ask ourselves individually is, ‘what can we bring to the fight?’,” said Fabio, ahead of Saturday’s home clash against in-form title contenders Liverpool.

“We have to give our all as individuals and as a team to ensure we stay in the Premier League.

“It doesn’t matter who we are playing against when it gets to this stage.

“We need points and every match is an opportunity. We must not look too far ahead.

“Survival will mean us picking up points here and there, game by game.

“It’s an important factor to treat things that way.

“People will talk about ‘six-pointers’, but every game from now until the end of this season is going to be massive.”

The 23-year-old Brazilian international, who spent six years at Old Trafford, struggled initially to settle in the City team.

But after six appearances he is beginning to demonstrate why boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw fit to turn to a player he worked with at United.

Fabio was a stand-out performer in the Bluebirds’ heart-breaking 2-1 defeat at Everton last Saturday, making more tackles – eight – than anybody else in the Premier League that weekend.

“I’m getting sharper, getting better and I learned from the early games of my Cardiff career,” he added. “My aim is to improve every time I pull on the shirt.

“I can see in every face the desire to survive, to win matches.

“There is a lot of pressure on us, of course, but we’ll do everything in our power to ensure Cardiff City are playing Premier League football again next season.”

It was a huge decision for Fabio to leave Manchester at the start of the year even if he only made 22 league appearances in his time at the champions.

But he stressed Solskjaer’s presence at Cardiff was key.

“It was a big change to what I’ve been used to because I had worked with Sir Alex Ferguson for more or less the entire time I’d been in the UK,” he explained.

“But I had worked with Ole and his coaches before, at United, and know him well.

“In some ways those factors meant it was more familiar in Cardiff than working at Manchester United with the new manager (David Moyes) taking charge.

“When I first arrived at Manchester United from Brazil I started training with Ole. For the last six months of his playing career I was working with him. I know his way and how he thinks about football. I promised the manager I would give this club everything I have in my body to help us out of the relegation battle.

“Even if I don’t play every week, I train hard and make sure I am ready.

“I don’t think I have to prove to anybody what I can do.

“I just have to prove things to myself.

“This is a great opportunity and I am enjoying the challenge.”

Fabio was also inspired when he looked at the Cardiff City squad list before making his decision and seeing Craig Bellamy’s name.

“That one name stood out for me before I joined and he is a huge influence on the squad now I am a Cardiff City player,” he says.

“Craig is a fantastic person to have around.”

While Fabio is preparing to face Liverpool at Cardiff City Stadium this Saturday, Bellamy is battling for fitness after missing the match at Everton.

He travelled with the squad to Merseyside and was out on the pitch for a short, sharp training session after the final whistle, but had not been included in the 18-man matchday squad.

Bellamy is desperate to face his former club, having had two spells playing for Liverpool, and his fitness will be assessed later this week.

There is one thing that keeps on coming across now and that is that every player seems to be 100% behind OGS and up for the fight to stay in this league, the spirit definately seems to be there from the various interviews that are being done with the press. Only time will tell whether or not that spirit will be enough

I wasn't convinced about Fabio but the more I see of him the more I like him. At Goodison, he really put a shift in and you could see from his expression just how much he wants to win.

I'm not sure how long Ole will garner player support. He is a nice guy by all accounts, but without strategic nous players will soon lose hope. We are an awful disorganised mess since he took over.

I disagree, personally I have noticed improvement from the team,I did however, think Ole would not have enough time to impose the style he wants to play.I do believe there are a few twists and turns to come,in the relegation scrap. We are in this league til the maths say we aint! COME ON CITY!!

I'm sorry. This post had 2 things wrong with it:-
1. It's too positive
2. It talks about the team.

Try to do better next time. :D  :ole:
