Tottenham Hotspur will move for Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall if Hugo Lloris leaves the club this summer.
Lloris recently hinted that he could look to exit White Hart Lane if the club fail to finish in the Champions League this season.
Following their 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the north London derby, Spurs lie seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who have two games in hand on Tim Sherwood's men.
That makes Lloris' exit a genuine possibility, and has sent ripples of panic through the White Hart Lane boardroom.
The Frenchman – a target for big-spending Ligue 1 outfit Monaco – is widely regarded as the only true world-class player in Spurs' squad, and chairman Daniel Levy knows he will struggle to replace the stopper's ability.
But he has earmarked Cardiff City keeper David Marshall as a replacement option.
The 29-year-old has impressed for Cardiff in a roller-coaster season and has been hailed as the best goalkeeper outside of the top four.
That has impressed Levy, who will go all out for the stopper if Lloris leaves.
A source close to White Hart Lane: “The club is obviously aware of interest in Hugo and Marshall is clearly a top keeper..
“He's a very good option if those circumstances arrive and would want to remain in the Premier League with City's position somewhat precarious."
