Are Swansea City safe from relegation?

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=137773#p1435964

That was a poor result for the Jacks yesterday whichever way they look at it, when we were turned over against Hull at home they ripped into us because of the score and who it was that beat us at our own place.

I reckon them losing at home to West Brom, who under Pepe Mel ended the Spaniard's winless run of seven games and gave the Baggies their first away win since September.

Is Monk a good enough manager to keep the Jacks away from relegation?

He certainly got them fired up against us in his first game but since that win his results leave a lot to be desired.

Swansea 3-0 Cardiff
Stoke 1-1 Swansea
Everton 3-1 Swansea (FA Cup)
Liverpool 4-3 Swansea
Swansea 1-1 Crystal Palace
Swansea 1-2 West Brom

They have some difficult away fixtures coming up and could struggle to get a point away from the Liberty but they do have winnable games at home but after failing to beat Palace and losing to West Brom, there could be doubt creeping in for their fans.

22/03 Everton v Swansea
25/03 Arsenal v Swansea
29/03 Swansea v Norwich
05/04 Hull v Swansea
13/04 Swansea v Chelsea
19/04 Newcastle v Swansea
26/04 Swansea v Aston Villa
03/05 Swansea v Southampton
11/05 Sunderland v Swansea

Carl, If I had a choice of manager I would choose Ole over Gary Monk any day and thats from myself who loves Ole as a person but still thinks Ole has a lot to learn. Yes Monk beat us, but that day I have to say their passion and will to beat us smashed us on the day, but it was a one off.

Ole will one day in my opinion become a very good manager, weve just got him at the start of his career in the English league, I dont see Monk going very far, but thats just my strong belief and opinion. I dont rate Monk at all, I dont like him either

The Jacks are sliding down fast and thats why they have gone underground

This is a Cardiff City forum, and whilst all opinions are welcome, can we keep it at that please? :laughing6:

For the record, your going down, and we just may well join you. ;)

In all seriousness Annis. The only thing that will keep us up is if we pick up a shock away win or get some draws away. At home we will not win another game! Under Monk we are tactically inept at a crucial time of the season, it's not his fault. Hugh Jenkins and Martin Morgan have taken the club as far as they can. :(

Re: HOW CONFIDENT ARE THEY ?

I think they are in a bit of trouble, but having Bony will give them a good chance of avoiding the drop. I think an injury to him and they would Panic. I don't think Monk is a manager and that was a massive risk, the jacks I know have all gone quiet last few weeks which is a definate sign that they are already getting a bit worried......

It seems that every year someone unexpected gets relegated at the last minute, and someone survives unexpectedly. We could survive, and Swansea could yet go down. However, my 75 year old mother who has been going to the games since the early 1950s predicted on Boxing Day that both Cardiff and Swansea would go down. There's a lot of years of football knowledge gone into that thought and I wouldn't want to back against her! :ole:

All we ever hear is how crap we are, and how brilliant Swansea are. To be honest, I'd swap places with them, but they are in the relegation mix, along with a few other clubs.

My feeling is that we're going down, probably with Fulham and Sunderland, but one or two others are in real danger too, including Swansea.

They seem to be in denial.

Come mid April after their Chelsea game I can see them being in a relegation spot. Adding to that it is possible we could be above them. I question if they have the mentality for a relegation scrap after a decade of success.

Fair play to you for your honesty. My opinion is that you probably have the best squad of bottom 8. However are they up for a scrap? Also there appears to be an arrogance/over confidence amongst your players and some fans regarding the swanselona hype.

Personally I'm not bothered if we go down. I want Tan gone and my club back to blue. If we stay up id like to see palace, Swansea and Fulham go.

I forgot to add, they haven't had a relegation battle for a while and have had a very successful spell, are they ready for a fight. The other point is that in a relegation battle you really need a united team that like each other with no splits in the camp, and the players liking and respecting the Manager.

After the Monk/Chico and Spanish/English situation does that sound like Swansea ???

Had this conversation with roath magic in another thread today .

Swansea a next two games are everton and arsenal away , the teams below them all playing each other means it's quite likely they will be bottom three in two weeks time .

Re: HOW CONFIDENT ARE THEY ?

Sun Mar 16, 2014 8:04 pm

come on now, lets not try and turn this into "swansea might go down" just because we're struggling and are desperate to try and find someone else to look at.....now they play better football than us, they're a better run club than us. if we both go down, they'd probably have a better chance than us at going up which is a fair and honest point.

they got players who can score goals, as do we. and as we all know anyone can beat anyone in this league, just look, hull beat us 4-0 at our place and, we've beaten man-city. so lets not turn attentions on "ooh i wonder if swansea are confident" lets worry about ourselfs is it.

Ga, we are sleepwalking our way too relegation, as someone else stated we are in denial, or have been. But even if we wake up now, I don't think we have it in us to out do others in the run in on ability alone. We have a team capt who although a good servant is at best a journeyman throughout his career who has settled in Swansea and now finds himself a manager of a premier league club. Bizarre at best, especially when you consider we sacked probably one of the top 50 players who has ever played the game to replace him with. As for Martin Morgan and Hugh Jenkins, they have done this club proud, but I'm afraid they are out of their league here. It's time too bring in someone who knows the score. I know both Martin and Hugh personally. I'll PM you when I have time. You'll be suprised! ;)

Re: HOW CONFIDENT ARE THEY ?

I think they will be alright by about a couple of points but they are going to be a bit anxious after the last couple of games. They have their bogie team at home coming up as well so you never know. I don't think the players will be over confident or their genuine fans.

We have 26000 home fans. 8-10000 of who never visited ninian and if we go down they'll soon go away and watch rugby/Liverpool/man utd from their armchairs.

As a supporter of my country, I want to see both cardiff and Swansea in the prem, it will only benefit our country in the long term. Both cardiff and Swansea going down will be a disaster.

I can't see many points out of that lot for them. What a time to tumble. Norwich have a tough run in too. It's going to the wire. Strange how few jacks on posting since yesterday, can't imagine why??

We'll be fine.

We should have been out of sight by half time but didn't take our chances yesterday and then got punished in the 2nd half as a result.

I think another 6 points will be enough for us if 3 of those points are against Norwich.

I tend to agree (for once) ;)

What would worry me if (lord forbid) I was a Swansea fan is if Huw gives Monk a contract beyond this season

That's not me being a ****, it is a genuine comment

What's your take on it NJ73 and (assuming he is going) who do you think will come in?

I think they'd like to give it to Monk permanently but it won't happen.

My understanding is (assuming we stay u), someone else will have the job next season but the board will insist on Monk being part of the coaching set up.

Ronald Koeman seems to want it but I think the board will be wary after the Sousa & Laudrup experiences.

Can't help feeling that you're a bit harsh on Sousa and Laudrup. Sousa steadied the ship after Martinez left you in the lurch, just missing the pay-offs if I remember right, and Laudrup won the League Cup and guided you to a top ten PL finish.

Indeed but I was referring more to the off the field stuff and training issues.

Under Sousa the players arranged secret extra fitness sessions as his training courses regime was mediocre and under Laudrup it appears to have basically been just a game of 5 a side so ML could show how good he is.

I can see why they would like it to be Monk...continuity of the Swansea blueprint

Koeman was the name recently bandied about, but you seem to think there is a receding chance of that, so is there someone you think could follow in the Martinez/Brendan style of play and player management?

Personally, I don't believe Swansea will really be 'in the mix' for relegation when it comes down to the last 3 or 4 games and I think someone who could maybe do a job would be Brighton's Oscar Garcia
