The headline on the thread is wrong even if corny was shit pearson didnt say we nearly signed him he said or did they offfer anything as in a BID :ayatollah:

“With all due respect we were thinking maybe £500,000 might be the type of price that would be a good investment for him.

Vincent Tan's bitter battle with Malky Mackay is set to escalate after Nigel Pearson revealed Leicester nearly signed £8million Cardiff flop Andreas Cornelius for less than £500,000.

Bluebirds owner Tan and ex-boss Mackay are locked in a legal fight after he was sacked in December.

Tan is refusing to pay Mackay compensation after accusing him of overspending his transfer budget.

The signing of Danish flop striker Cornelius for £8m is a huge bone of contention.

Cardiff paid a club-record £7.6m - which could have potentially risen to £10.9m based on appearances - to Danish champions FC Copenhagen last July.

There was also a hefty £1.5m signing-on fee for Cornelius, as well as a five-year contract worth £11.7m.

But the 20-year-old failed to score in 11 appearances and was embarrassingly offloaded back to Copenhagen in January.

Foxes boss Pearson revealed: “You look at Cornelius who went to Cardiff, I think they paid £8million for him.

“We had been following his progress for a long period of time.

“With all due respect we were thinking maybe £500,000 might be the type of price that would be a good investment for him.

“Then he goes for £8million.

“He is a young lad coming into the English league and it is a massive change.

“People will probably be less tolerant of him bedding in because of the price tag.”

Pearson insisted his Championship league leaders were already compiling potential targets should they get promoted.

Pearson has lots of players on his radar and used their previous interest in Cornelius to illustrate how City are already doing their due diligence.

yes true pearson didnt actually say was close to signing but maybe he saw something that malky or moony obviously didnt, because he never made bid for him!! nothing wrong with headline can be interpreted any way you want to. depends on which side of fence you are on?

Im not on any fence alan now if pearson said " WE AGREED A FEE OF 500K BUT TERMS COULD NOT BE REACHED" I would get the "NEARLY SIGNED" headline bit but he never said that so how can he nearly sign him. :ayatollah:

Looks like Tan will get a professional panel to give a range of Valuations for Cornelius's market value and wage...........then say Moody and Malky grossly overpaid so they had a larger slice for themselves.

I have a feeling that the recent cheap return of Corny to Copenhagen involves in a favourable testimony from them aligned to the above.

They say they would have sold him for 2mil.........but, were flabbergasted at the Cardiff offer.

For the record, I'm gutted its all turned out like this with Malky.

Villa were offered falcao for 7mil but bought Heskey.

These stories can go on forever. Other clubs were linked with him like stoke for 5 mil, so let's not exaggerate it to we paid 15x the price ffs.

its a very very big difference in valuation though..........Pearson isnt new to the game is he?
and right now is there a Cardiff fan out there that would agree that Malkys valuation was closer than Pearsons........

I completely understand why Malky was sacked.
He was one of, if not the best manager we've had. But he had wasted around 16 million if you include Velikonja etc and It's Tan's money. its just a shame about the timing and the way in which he did it.

Stoke and (I think) Everton were linked at 5 million we went in way over at 7.5

People make it out as if he played hours of football without scoring.

He played about 200 minutes after an long lay off and the retard Tan sold him for nothing.

Which I think was mainly done for Tan to use as 'incompetence' when it comes to the courts.

He had the opportunity to play a lot more minutes but he wasn't chosen. Did he look anything other than awful I'm those minutes?
