Craig Bellamy insists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has let him off the leash, his energy is back and he's feeling sharp

Cardiff City's hometown hero Craig Bellamy is hoping his all-out attacking role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can help him inspire a Roy Of the Rovers style Premier League survival charge

Can Craig Bellamy fire the goals to complete Cardiff City's Roy of the Rovers survival story?

Craig Bellamy insists he's more able than ever to influence Cardiff City’s bid to avoid Premier League relegation...thanks to the attacking freedom Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has handed him.

The Bluebirds kick off their nine-match run-in away to Everton on Saturday, before hosting Bellamy’s former club Liverpool at Cardiff City Stadium the following weekend.

Cardiff are fixed in a battle with West Brom, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Norwich and Fulham to avoid dropping out of the world's richest league.

And the Bluebirds’ talisman is positive, saying he's fit, firing and in a position to do his bit for the cause, arguing the more adventurous tactics now deployed by Solskjaer suit him down to the ground.

Hometown hero Bellamy sat out the last two months of Malky Mackay’s reign because of fitness issues, while Solskjaer threw him straight in against West Ham for his first Premier League match in charge.

Bellamy said: “I have the utmost respect for what Malky did at this club and what he did for me as a person. I adore the man and will always be grateful.”

But after being pushed into a more central role, further up the field by Solskjaer, Bellamy said: “We are playing differently.

Craig Bellamy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer share a joke “I’m in the offensive third whereas at the start of the season I was basically playing left-back. It was how we tried to play.

“I sense I’m able to change games whereas at the start of the season maybe I couldn’t.

“I’ve got a better chance of deciding games these days than I did at the start of the season.

“The way we set up suits me.

“I’m fit, my energy is back, I’m sharp.

“I’m probably in the best condition I have been in during my time at this club. I’m in a position to do something about my personal performances.”

Of Solskjaer and his tactics, Bellamy continued: “It’s a different style. Things change, another manager comes in with new ideas and new coaches.

“Some players adapt and take off, some players find it difficult.

“There are some who have flourished and some who were playing under the previous manager who are not performing at the same level. That happens.

“It’s very difficult to judge a manager straight away but Ole is a very good manager. I think that will show over the next few years.

“He has been positive. Personally, I admire the way he goes about things. It’s a completely different style to the last manager but he’s putting his own stamp on things.

“I had a lot of respect for him as a player. He’s come into a difficult situation here, but he wants us to keep believing and keep showing our character. We will do everything we can to do that.”

Bellamy concluded: “I believe we can keep our place in the Premier League.

“There are still enough points out there against teams we are capable of beating.”

Mildly put it, Malky's tactics were garbage.
