Newcastle manager Pardew was given seven-match suspension which will see him barred from stadia for three games, and from the touchline for the subsequent four.
It is stiffest punishment imposed on a Premier League manager.
Pardew has also been fined £60,000 after an FA independent regulatory committee came down hard on the 52-year-old, who pleaded guilty to head-butting Meyler.
The punishment is subject to appeal and once more Pardew said sorry for his actions.
He said: “As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again wholeheartedly apologise to all parties for my conduct, which I understand was not acceptable.
“I will accept the punishment handed down by the Football Association today.
“My focus now turns to preparing the team for this weekend’s game against Fulham and finishing the season as strongly as possible.”
Pardew completes his stadium ban after the visit by Everton on March 25.
His touchline punishment runs until the home Premier League clash with Swansea on April 19. He will be free to return to the technical area for the final three games of the season, starting with the trip to Arsenal, nine days later.
