Wilfried Zaha: Still very much in Cardiff's plans

Tuesday 11th March 2014.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that on-loan Manchester United star Wilfried Zaha still has a big part to play in Cardiff's battle against relegation.

Zaha began his spell with the Bluebirds brightly, but he has been left out of their last two games by Solskjaer.

But the Cardiff boss insists that Zaha still features heavily in his plans.

"The original plan was to play Wilf on Saturday, but I decided instead to go with Fraizer Campbell who I thought might only last 60 minutes, but instead gave us everything he had," he said.

"Of course Zaha has a big role to play, or I would not have brought him to the club."

None of Cardiff's strikers have scored since the start of February when Kenwyne Jones bagged the winner against Norwich, and Solskjaer insists he is working them hard.

"I have been a striker myself and I know what they think and what they feel, and what they want from their training," he said.

"It is about practising - I have started putting crosses in for them myself, don't worry about that.

"I understand what kind of situations will benefit them, and that is what we are doing. They will practise what they do in a game.

"At times we take them to work separately - you nurture them and give them some TLC because as a striker you want that.

"It can be tough when you are not scoring, but then one day you will score off your backside and you think you are the best in the world again.

"That is the confidence you need as a striker. It is a fine line between missing and scoring. Most of the goals will be scored from one touch."

I agree with that Annis that strikers need nurturing and TLC but what Kenwye needs is to lose a few stone, do lots of cross country running and a new pair of feet as the guy is lazy and tbh f*cking useless.

We would find a better striker on Jubilee Park on a Sunday afternoon

I must be the only one, but thought Jones had a decent hour or so last Sat.He is important part of squad.

You are not the only one, but it seems but a few understand the task at hand for a target man

I thought jones linked up well with with our midfield and Campbell he just needs to sort his shooting boots out and swap his 50p head for a round one.

Completely agree with you both. Jones may not chase, close down or work as hard as Campbell, or drift wide like Bothroyd, but not many target men do. I would rather a "lazy" Jones plonked in the middle to win the ariel and physical battle with Hangeland over a Bothroyd type drifting wide and not getting into the box anytime. Jones was the focal point to our attacks, winning the ball and linking the play. Jones won his battle against Hangeland, that's for sure!

There we have it, all of our strikers need to be chasing everything, news flash they don't. Jones has much more physical presence than a lot of our previous strikers, but because he doesn't chase after everything he's a shit player despite playing in the PL the most of his career. Fed up of people slagging him off, it was the same with Heidar

You must be blind, Jones was garbage, exactly what the Stoke fANS warned us of, exactly what the sunderland fans warned them of. How could he not score that brilliant set-up goal when he was on the penalty spot almost with just the keeper to beat, shocking! Id have Joe Mason over him all day, so unlucky hes been its unreal.

im guessing the same reason Cambell have put a few headers in the air this season aswell. Not quite sure why they dont put them, but that is a little bit on the side of the target man discussion isnt it?

I can’t stand Zaha. he will never make it at Cardiff or united. Too lazy.

Re: ' Wilfried Zaha '

Tue Mar 11, 2014 9:05 pm

The annoying thing with Zaha in the games he's played in is the number of 60/40 balls in his favour he has shyed away from. He could end up playing a big part for us with his pace and the way we think o.g.s. is going to set up away from home but if his heart isn't in it then leave him on the bench.

Re: ' Wilfried Zaha '

Zaha does seem to bottle it and usually tries to do to much on his own. Jones is lazy and didn't get much of a service which suggests even our own players don't have much confidence in him.

Jones got the better of Hangeland, yet you think he was garbage? Jones' misses were poor and Mason may have buried those chances, but we would never have mounted attacks to create those chances in the first place with Mason in the team, as he would not have given us the focal point Jones gave us. Hangeland was second best, so I don't think Jones was garbage at all.

a player like jones will always split opinion. He done o.k.on saturday no more than that. His battle with hangerland was a good sub plot in the game. 50/50 for me between them which Is good in my eyes. He can be a bit frustrating to watch but i suppose he lead the line in a game where we got a win and 3 goals.

Some of our supporters are quite delusional, Kenwyne Jones is a target man and you should know exactly what you get, rarely charge down.

Wilfried Zaha personally on times in a game is too quick for our own players so he tries to hold the ball and slow down to wait for others to join in with attack, where he prefers to everyone be on his wave length breaking into the box so he can dispatch the ball straight away.

Nice to still have him as a option.

I was more excited about his signing more than the the others. In his appearances so far my main concern is his commitment he looks disinterested and a shit house. I don't expect him to fly into tackles all game but he has pulled out of balls he himself as overrun and the odds are more with him to win it.
He is definitely an option but would prefer nooney Bellamy and dhaeli in there in front of him at the moment
