Our best team and formation?

Mon Mar 10, 2014 9:51 pm

Hi
I beleive our team suits a 4-2-2-2 formation:

Image

Cala and Caulker with youngbloods on the side will be a dynamic and solid defence.
Medel and Bellamy will be fire and frustration for the oponents.
Noone and Campbell as defencive wings will create lightning on the sides.
Dæhli and Berget upfront have played together before. Berget will be more effective than Jones, and their creative placing and style will pull the plug on most teams?

OGS has two systems and none of them are that one, and he disagrees completely on the players. Hopefully we have two good systems for the run in and it will make us very hard for other teams to prepare against us, as we are much less predictable now under OGS...

Why Bellamy in midfield? :? He can't tackle, pass or dribble so we'd be far too exposed.

Our best formation is either 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 which is what Ole seems to be heading towards. 3-5-2 against stronger teams and tough away games and 4-3-3 against "lesser" sides.

Our best side is too hard to say because we haven't seen enough of the likes of Eikrem and Berget to determine whether they merit a starting place.

Well i dont know if this is the best possible lineup, but it's a thought.

-------------------Marshall---------------

----------Caulker - Cala - Turner-------
Fabio-------Medel------Eikrem----John
-------------------Dæhli------------------
-------------Campell-Zaha---------------

I know Zaha has been abused by some of you, and i know he hasnt impressed, but he hasnt really played many games neither and his weakest points have been the defensive work. I think, if he gets the right instructions, he can be a real danger going forward. Very unpredictable and he can take on defenders. Because of his pace, i belive he can make a run behind the defence if the space is there, and get alone with the keeper. The formation above is how it's going to look with Dæhli in the number 10 role behind Campell, and Zaha going more forward and attacking more like a "striker-wing" The point being the strikers threatening the space behind the defenders, and run behind them, with Dæhli looking for that ball through.

Defensively looking something like this:
---------------Marshall------------
---------------- Cala --------------
Fabio - Caulker - Turner - John
-----------Medel---Eikrem-------
Dæhli-------Campell-------Zaha

Maybe a bit unconventional, and risky, but might work against the better teams?

Another more obvious way to play is like this:

Fabio-Caulker-Turner-John
Noone-Medel-Mutch-Campell
-------Dæhli--Jones----------

Or like this…

Fabio-Caulker-Cala-John
Mutch-Medel-Eikrem
Noone-Dæhli-Zaha

What do you think? I dont belive Ole will try this out tbh, and as i don't pretend to know what im talking about here, you may give your opinions, i just have a feeling something like this could work.

In my opinion, unless you have a very talented and versatile first 11, these days the squad rotates and repositions to adjust according to the opposition you are playing. So the idea of THE best formation may not be in Ole's thinking, but the best formation for the next match probably will.

I totally agree that the optimal team depends on the oponent. My suggestion in this post was in relation to the Everton match.
(should have made that clearer) - Everton is a solid team that likes to have possession - Thats why I beleive its better to have four lines instead of three - to narrow the channels!
Bellamy might not be a player with the best stats to play midfield , but his energy and fighting will next to Medel would be frustrating for Everton. We need people that can run this weekend - thats why I see Berget or Zaha upfront instead of Jones - someone that can fight Everton`s possession as well as attacking.

Berget has been vital for Molde the last couple of years. He took the piss against England`s U23 and was strong against France.
Molde has actually beaten and played well against teams such as Stuttgart and Basel (who beat Chelsea).

Hope Ole will find the right tactics - think the team can surprise towards the end of the season!!! :ayatollah:

Interesting angle and not a stupid think tank at all! Would have been fun to see that in motion, but it wont happen.
The risk if far to great from the gain at this point. But 3-5-2 wingback`s is one hell of a counter tactic and i hope we see that one against Everton :ole:

Marshall

Fabio
Caulker
Cala
John

Medel
Mutch

Noone
Kim
Daehli

Jones

Bring on Bellamy, Zaha, Campbell during the game as and when. Ta da. 4-2-3-1 Medel to hold midfield, Mutch to create and attack from deep.

In the 90`s this was thought at as one of the most destructive formations known to football. What is your thought on how to play this formation?
