The scoreline flattered us yesterday...

Sun Mar 09, 2014 1:28 pm

We will not stay up or pick up any more points if we play like we did today.

This is how we set up:

Image

Declan John had no options but to run down the line, or pass it back across the back four because Kim was in the middle and we had no left winger.

This also became a problem when Campbell (who was superb and never stopped running) came out wide to compensate for the lack of width down the left. One time i remember in particular, Kim had the ball and was running at their defence, but in the end he had to draw the foul as he had no one in front of him to pass to because our Striker who can run the line and run onto through balls, was out on the left. Obviously Kenwyn Jones was making no effort to get into that position...

So because of this we were left with a very imbalanced looking team.

What was also strange, especially in the first half was how many times, despite the lack of left winger, we'd attack down the left, instead of getting the ball out to Noone.

Kenwyn Jones is a waste of a man, he does nothing. Many people say, yes but Kenwyn adds that ariel danger up top for us to win headers. But the fact is he doesn't do that. He does nothing. He doesn't put pressure of defenders, he doesn't win headers and he doesn't make himself available for through balls and he can't score with his head or his feet.

The way we played today in my opinion made us play like this:

Image

Don't get me wrong, Campbell was immense, never stopped running and showed the rest of the players the effort that is needed if we are to have any chance of staying up, but he was having to do so much to make up for the tactics and other players that we couldn't get him into positions where he is most effective and that is him scoring goals.

A few other strange things happened during the game in my opinion.

It was clear to me that at half time Bellamy, Zaha or Dæhli should have come on for Kim to give us that much needed width on the left, but that never came, at any time.

After the 3rd goal we took Campbell off instead of Kenwyn Jones, it seems as if even Ole thinks that because he should be doing it Kenwyn Jones actually does hold up the ball well but as previously stated he does not. Keeping Campbell on there would have made us more effective and with the addition of Dæhli we would have been able to move Campbell into the position where he is most effective.

Also, when Turner got injured why did KTC come on instead of Cala, a player Ole signed and a player that in my opinion gives us a bit more that Turner anyway, with his ability to play out of the defence and take the ball forward.

I like Ole. I still believe he will be a great manager for Cardiff City FC but he is quite clearly still learning the game. I'm no expert but I honestly feel that these things were basic and obvious. We were lucky to be playing the worst side in the league.

What killed it for me was when we had a free kick and Medel did not take the opportunity to put the ball forward and just gave a side pass instead.

Campbell played on the eft yesterday, so your whole post is redundant

Football manager has made many people believe they are tactical geniuses

Agree. Medel doesn't pass forward much, Eirkem is a much more forward thinking player.

Im sorry mate. He won 5/9 headers against a ten pole man. And the gameplan, well you missed that to.
Keep the door closed for 60 minutes and be in a position to push for a win. About time we had some luck imo.. :ayatollah:

Lance? Lay of the crack pipe son. Did I mention anything to do with breaking up play? We were talking about passing

28% of medel passes went down right to fabio. The wolff plays kims role, not medels..

I thought he was more of a forward thinking DM, don't think he is a Kim type player.

He hasn't been played there for Cardiff and that's what I care about

Jordan Mutch over Wolff in the box to box role any day. I'd have Mats or Bellamy playing where Kim did yesterday I can't stand Kim he frustrates the life out of me.

Disagree on Medel yesterday his passing was woeful first half and that ball he knocked square to John from a free kick 2nd half summed his day up.

Like i daid. Gameplan! Keep door shut, bring on attack force in 60 minutes. At least that is what i get from solskjaers statements. When the heat was on, i think medel step up and was crusial..

What heat?
Fulham were about as hot as the North Pole.
Two awful sides yesterday and both going down Id say.

Wouldn't drop Medel no one else can play the role but he did not have a good game yesterday and if you don't agree fine we will agree to disagree.

Do you think we should drop Medel for Eikrem then? Eikrem is no better than Whitts. Eikrem who's sideways pass against Hull was easily cut out for the 1st goal?
