The history repeats itself

I know stats and history is just that - the past seen in hindsight. However, I think it might be worth looking at how OGS performed in the past when looking forward to what remains of the season.

When OGS took over Molde in January 2010, they started off rock bottom. In his first match, they lost 3-0 to a newly promoted team, and to be honest, they played really crap for a good while. Then he slowly but steadily got his ideas across to the players, and they started winning games. Two months into the league season they were in eighth place with only 11 points. Finally they ended up winning the league that year as you all well know.

The next year he just had to build on the same team with a couple of improvements, and they easily won the league the second time around.

The third year, they sold a number of key players, and he had to build a new team, more or less from scratch. For the first 11 matches they only managed to get 7 points. Then things started to gel, and they picked up another 37 points from the remaining 19 fixtures, ending sixth in the league and winning the cup as well.

I know there are no excuses in football, but I think the above shows it’s not done overnight to have a team come together and perform under a new philosophy. But the end product has always been brilliant under OGS. In my opinion the lads have been improving every match lately, and even showed glimpses of class in the embarrassing defeat against Hull.

So with only 1 point away from safety, the team starting to show their ability, the philosophy coming through, and the winning history of OGS, I’m actually becoming gradually more and more optimistic Cardiff will stay up. :ole:
