Just don't see it myself, today again his positional sense for defending was naive.
He lost the ball so many times, only seems to pass backwards.
Some people saying he had a great game, I thought he didn't contribute much at all?

Got to agree. Iv always said he is more of a left winger, while he stays at left back we may struggle down that side.

Made some great runs but then just passed to Fulham. Ok game today, not a full back in a million years
Sat Mar 08, 2014 7:41 pm
Got to disagree. I think he had a good game today and will be a real class act in years to come and at the moment he's the best we've got at the moment

LEARNING.
WILL IMPROVE.
Give him time, he's better than Taylor.

Will improve frustrates me that he would rather pass back than go forward though or take anyone on, be a great player in future though

Some great runs but his final ball was shocking.

I understand your frustration mate, pissese off when I always hear one for the future etc but on his defence he's pulling out some 6/10 performances I'm sure they will look back and work with him on the parts of his game he needs to improve, and even with room (plenty) to improve he's still our best option in that position.

He is ONLY 18 years old !
He ran 40 yards with the ball, beating 3 players, then made the wrong choice - he passed when he should have kept going.
At just 18 he probably just didn't have the confidence to go the final few steps.
A great talent in any position.....and only 18 !

Why do people criticise him? Its his debut professional season, and in it he has been plunged into a relegation battle in the top flight, would you rather Taylor play who has no pace and no attacking abilities, can certainly see him keeping his place next season whether we are in the Prem or Championship.

The thing is, I know lots of 18 year olds and they aren't good enough to be in our team either!
I just don't think he is good enough at this moment, and those with rose tinted glasses should take them off!

He's quick, got good work rate and defends decently from what I've seen. Doesn't contribute much offensively, needs to learn a lot to become a modern fullback. I think he'd perform better alongside a different sort of winger than Noone though, who can be a bit singleminded on running at the goal.

I thought he was more defnsively sound than Fabio.
Fabio played well but at times like by the away end he lunges in stupidly.
Sat Mar 08, 2014 8:43 pm
Better than Fabio. A lot of full backs these days aren't the best defenders. Look at Dani Alves, his biggest strength is going forward, out of his depth a lot of the time when defending.
Kevin McNaughton on the other hand is good at both and is definitely our best RB

Declan plays left back noone plays right wing
So not in front of declan
And yes I was at todays game and noone did change wing occasionally but is usually on oppsite side to declan
Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:14 pm
Certainly has a future at this level without a doubt.
Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:32 pm
What do people want if you want the best full back at defending you have mcnaughton but his distribution is poor apparently. Declan is a converted midfielder and at times it shows but he is young and his getting better every game. His composure late in the second half when he could have knocked it out for a throw in but went round his man and popped a pass to dhaeli I think was class. Would have him in my team before Taylor anyday.

Exactly! People are far too judgmental far too quickly on here. Waaay ahead of expectation right now. He will only get better.
Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:45 pm
The fact he was voted worst left back in the division should give people a hint that its probably not his best position, but he is the best we have in that position at the moment.

I remember people groaning, when an 18 year old left back playing for Wales called Bale, consistently lost the ball with a wayward cross or taking on one too many people.

I think that's what most people are saying he's not a left back but rather a left winger
