Well this is poetic justice if ever we saw it.
A subtitle blunder on Channel 4 mistakenly translated Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov’s name to ‘so gay lover of’ during a live television broadcast.
The mistake happened during a report on Wednesday’s meeting between the US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart.
As the reporter said Sergey Lavrov’s name subtitled sensors interpreted it as ‘so gay lover of’ in words that flashed up on screen.
The gaffe is particularly funny given Russia’s controversial anti-homosexual policies, which have received worldwide condemnation.
The blunder didn’t escape the watchful eye of Twitter users.
One posted: ‘So Gay Lover? Wahaha, Putin will go mental.’
