Drugs in Football

Tue Mar 04, 2014 11:33 pm

I get drug and alcohol tested quite a lot in my job.
With the news the ECB has drug tested every professional cricketer in Eng and Wal, would we ever see it happen in Football?

I've seen a few professional footballers and rugby players taking drugs including well known rugby players who have played at the highest possible level a Brit can play at, but unfortunately cocaine which is everywhere these days stays in your system for a day or so. So if they are out on a Saturday back home with friends, by the time they get back to training etc on a Monday or Tuesday it's usually long gone out of the system.

They can detect drugs you took back as far as 6 months with a hair sample. Thats what the cricket board used.

I don't understand the ban for cocain ir any other recreational substance I mean its not exactly gonna give them an unfair advantage.
and anyone who over indulges in class A drugs would not be able to keep up playing football at the top level.

steroids are bad for endurance also tho I agree bans have to be made their

Steroids arnt bad for endurance, maybe if you take them in a bodybuilding sense but certain steroids strengthen your respiratory system that's why they give them to children with growing disorders in their lungs, athletes take the same ones like cage fighters and boxers when they are off season

Drugs like Cocaine and Cannabis can't really give you an unfair advantage, quite the opposite actually. A drug like Cocaine obviously is addictive, and will affect eating patterns etc, which will in turn slow down the uptake of nutrients in the body.

Cannabis , probably the least harmful drug of most. It can help with weight control, but again, it will adjust the diet of a professional athlete.

Rio Ferdinand was bang on the Charlie at one point, he refused to take the drugs test a few years ago and got a ban.

Plus up at Old Trafford, over the years Rooney has been dropped last minute with Fergie blaming a late injury, talk in the stands were that he had been drugs tested by the club, failed and received a 1 week ban (internally)

God knows how accurate these things are, but in reality I bet 25% of premiership players take banned substances.

My mate is an ex Npt Player Alan Williams moved to Ireland and managed Shelbourne . He told me Years ago that Charlie could be masked by taking a few Ranitidine and was quite commonplace.

Lol.

I have smoked Cannabis for 9 years now. And it helped me shift a shit load of weight.

Take a look a cannabis and weight loss on Google, it's actually quite common, due to Cannabis using up sugars in your body, hence getting the munchies . You clearly don't have much of a clue about these things you dumb f**k

Re Cocaine, the biggest mugs drug in the world. Sure Cardiff has some nice Flake about, and even the re pressed shit is ok, but let's be fair, how can it enhance an athletes performance?

Increase in aggression, good for contact sports, not football though.

Have you ever even smoked a joint or sniffed a line? Dopey tw*t

Now go and have a suck on a pasty. Before you start climbing on any other bandwagons should make really sure you know what you are talking about.

does anyone think football authorities is bothered about performance enhancing Drugs? haha, why do you think the Spanish national side all of a sudden dominate the world ;)

Their government had blood samples from 'top athletes' destroyed rather than bring the dopers to justice. Be mindful this is only one Doctor who got caught & there are plenty others who help athletes 'improve performance,'

During the trial, Fuentes said he had worked with athletes, footballers and boxers, as well as cyclists, though he did not say whether he had helped them dope.

If you learnt to open the link. This man (Fuentes) was convicted for helping Spanish cyclists dope. Police raided his lab & had > 400 samples from top Athletes of all endurance sports. The court inexplicably decided to destroy the evidences of doping. He also worked closely with Real Sociedad who from nowhere qualified for CL.
