There's nothing wrong with playing different formations/tactics at home vs. the worst PL team and away vs. one of the better PL teams.
Yes why not?

We can't play 4-4-2 because we are overrun, we can't play 4-5-1/4-3-3 because we can't cover the pitch well enough and support the lone striker and we can't play 4-2-3-1 because again we are overrun. 3-5-2 5-3-2 whatever you want to call it isn't just a defensive formation, it can be as offensive as the other 3. Plus John and Fabio are both adequate at going forward.
It worked well against Spurs so we can't change formation AGAIN because how are we going to get results if we are changing between formation every week? It's a perfect formation for us, we can utilise 3 CB's so we are more solid while still having 3 midfielders and two strikers (which everyone on this board is obsessed with) but sadly we can't use wingers.
But I fail to see why you think it is just a defensive formation.
