Tan's dragon is the real culprit.

Tan promised in his famous speech that his dragon would protect the bluebird because the bluebird is frightened and that this would then allow the bluebird to fly high. The dragon is clearly not up to the challenge so perhaps instead of sacking Malky, the dragon should have been given the boot.
