Do you agree with Terry Phillips?

Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:32 am

DAVID MARSHALL

Solid and made a couple of smart saves, but protected by a well organised defensive unit which certainly frustrated Spurs. 7

JUAN CALA

Sweeper, operating just behind the centre-backs. Calm, assured. Moved to left-back as Cardiff gambled on attack and shone again. 7

FABIO

Has plenty to learn defensively, but this Brazilian adds zip going forward. Replaced by Jones as City threw themselves forward. 7

STEVEN CAULKER (capt)

Should have scored, but header hit bar. Strong, wholehearted. Ran 50 yards to plead for Bellamy as he clashed with referee. 7

BEN TURNER

Returned to the team, impressed as City tweaked their system. Slotted in alongside Caulker with the luxury of a sweeper behind them. 7

DECLAN JOHN

Lennon gave him tough time, but seems to be ahead of Taylor for left-back slot. At least he showed no fear and had a go in attack. 6

GARY MEDEL

Back from injury, a shock call after too little training. A risk, but added an extra layer of midfield protection and quality in front of back four. 7

ARON GUNNARSSON

Asked to compete, close down Spurs and give Bellamy, Kim and Co the chance to create. Did his job before making way for Mutch. 6

KIM BO-KYUNG

Asked to provide attacking intent, the tricks and creativity. There were too few touches of quality as Cardiff’s attack failed again.5

CRAIG BELLAMY

Back from suspension, played just behind Campbell. Sharp, dangerous, but almost got himself into trouble with sharp words to the ref. 6

FRAIZER CAMPBELL

Preferred to Jones in attack thanks to a workrate which makes him a threat. There were few chances for Campbell. 6

Gunnarrson was shocking.
Kim was awful.
Fabio is a waste of space.

When doing scores you have to look at the role they were asked to fill .

Marshall - 7 - did everything required of him , no chance with the goal

Caulker - 7 - commanded the back 5 and unlucky not to score
Turner - 7 - showed what he is capable of
Cala - 7 - brilliant in a few different positions , terry is wrong he played more in front (dm) not behind the others .
Fabio - 3 - no comment
John - 6 - up against one of the quickest players around , competed well and chipped in going forward

Medel - 8 - oozes quality , broke up play , tackled hard and read the game brilliantly ( man of the match )
Gunnarsson - 5 - he struggles when he comes up against tricky playmakers , struggled against spurs midfield
Kimbo - 5 - bullied by spurs , gave the ball away and contributed very little going forward

Bellamy - 6 - chased everything , tracked back to help John out against Lennon , had a decent game
Campbell - 7 - another game chasing helpless balls into the channels , but gave 100% again can't fault him

What the hell? Fabio had a good game??? Just think, Townsend was on that side, he did plenty of running but didn't really get past Fabio. But he's there's as an attacking full back and got forward well. Gunnar was crap and i didn't personally rate him in the championship. Bellamy is past it and frazier doesn't get in enough good positiona to score although he didn't have a bad game. Medel was outstanding and the 3 centrehalfs looked comfortable..........spurs didn't know what had hit them when mutch and daehli came on

Back 3 looked solid, have to use this as a platform.

Fabio blows hot and cold, John showed improvements once again.

Gary bossed the midfield, best player on the pitch for me. Gunnars and Kim didn't have their best games but put the hard work in.

Bellars led attacks well on the counter attack.

Campbell as always never stopped running, needs to react quicker in front of goal.

Performance overall was much better, we looked to have a structure to our game and a clear way of playing. Players like Nooney and Zaha might not get alot of game time in this set up but we need to go with whats right for the team for the run in. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Even though our opinions aren't exactly the same from what we've written, its nice to come across someone who sounds like they know what they're on about without having to criticise players and get on their backs.

Have to admit I thought Fabio looked better than he has done at any time this season, last season or at any time playing for Man Utd

He can't defend we all know that and that's why he scares the shit out of me when his name is on the team sheet. But I did think he was allowed to get forward more and I think that's his natural game, whilst I can't remember Townsend getting the better of him many times, so all in all I think he played ok (and I can't believe I'm writing this!)

Mutch in for Gunnar, Daelhi in for Kimbo and (again I can't believe I'm going to say this regarding my feelings for this lazy, show pony....) but Zaha in for Campbell.

Zaha has pace and a reputation (somehow!?!?) that scares defenders & I base this on the fact he has been, in the main, shit and almost disinterested since coming down on loan, but if you watch when he has the ball defenders back off him.

Plus we haven't scored since the 300 Spartans were slaughtered in battle so why not give him a run!?!?!
