The next Gareth Bale maybe? Only 18 and looking comfortable in the Premier League, plays the wing back position very well IMO and with regular game time he could be a very important player in a few years time

He played very well. I think we have to play the wing-back system as none of the full backs at the club are PL fullbacks. a bit harsh perhaps but my opinion

10x better than Taylor

Just needs a little more confidence when going forward which is strange considering he used to play as a striker and a left winger. He doesn't seem to trust in his ability yet to take on players and get to the byline which is understandable for a 18 year old playing at the top level

I'll be honest and say that when I used to see his name on the team sheet I used to fear for us. I knew Taylor was not the answer but I also felt that Declan John was not either.
However, I remember watching Gareth Bale play against us for Southampton at Ninian Park. Bale played left-back that day and while he had noticeable pace, he did look a little tentative, unsure when to push forward or stay back and hold the line - that day, I'm convinced that a good Premier league player such as Emmanuel Adebayor or Aaron Lennon would have given Bale a torrid afternoon.
A year later and Bale came on leaps & bounds - physically more developed and more self-confident... the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, I'm not suggesting that John will go on to be as good a player as Bale, however, I'm convinced that he'll feel a whole lot stronger and confident when playing in the Championship next season (surely our destination?) and will be one of the best, if not THE best left-back in the Championship next season.

Gareth Bale was shot at left back, not winning 17 games in a row for Tottenham. He used to get skinned regularly for Wales as left back as well, Dean Saunders mentioned this on sky the other day, as soon as he was pushed to left wing he was on fire. I think Declan John is similar in that he defensive work is not the best but he is great going forward, he needs to be pushed up like Bale was or he will continues to get skinned like he has been, he is to lightweight for a left back at this level.

It was a negative defensive minded malky mackay who switched john to a left back, is this any surprise?
He would make a better left winger imo the position he played in growing up through the ranks

The next Gareth Bale ffs hes a kid who lets be honest was ripped a new one by Nathan Dyer when we played the jerks 3 weeks ago !
Lets slow down with the comparrisons of world class players because if half of our players were as good as some idiots on here nake out we wouldnt be in the shit .

Exactly he's not a left back he's a winger, that what we are saying, no1 has said he will be the next bale

Can't belive some are comparing him to Bale!
He's decent enough nothing special will probably be our regular left back and stay with us for most of his career IMO.
Also he should have passed to Bellamy yeaterday and not shot. Bellers would have had a tap in.

Not saying he's going to be as good as Bale, no Welsh player will be in a long time. But when Bale was 18 he was playing in League 1, Dec is playing regularly in the Premier League.
I agree with others that he's more of a winger, I hope Ole realises this and plays him left wing next year. Then Coleman can play him on the left and Bale on the right

Bale's technique is infinately better than John's....Bale was scoring free-kicks at Southampton when he was 16. John's technique of delivery (crosses) is going to take time to develop. Has all the physical attributes to become an important player

Get a f*cking grip. The next Bale ffs.

Potential and talent, had Spurs knocking the door once.
Hopefully a few games for Wales to bump his fee up if there are clubs watching.

It's a shame he wasn't old enough to be playing alongside Miguel Comminges. He could have learned a lot and toughened up.
