Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan should apologise for referring to Cardiff as a town in a controversial recent interview, according to a leading AM.

Leighton Andrews, a Cardiff City fan who was born in the city, says he will raise the issue at the National Assembly on Tuesday, explaining that it is “deeply insulting” and that “this is about national pride”.

Mr Andrews, who has been representing Rhondda as an AM since 2003 and is a former Education Minister, says questions need to be answered.

He said: “I think he should apologise. On the eve of Wales’ national day to refer to Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, as a town is deeply insulting.

“I will be raising this in the National Assembly for Wales on Tuesday.

“I don’t think he can treat the people of Wales, people of Cardiff, the players and supporters with such contempt.

“I think he has a lot of questions to answer and that’s why I have called on the club to hold an annual meeting. This is not just football but this is about national pride.

“I think, lets start with an apology and see where we go after that.”

Its like tit for tat with all this apology crap. Both should just f*cking grow up.

I just wish Tan would shut his trap, i just think he's a bit of a foot in mouth kinda guy rather than a calculated spin doctor

Come into Town is clearly a figure of speech

These AMs have got far too much time on their hands if they're going to put forward a motion because someone called a city a town in an offhand comment.

People have been calling Swansea a city for years and no one seems to have minded...

fine to rebrand a club and screw over fans, but as soon as you call Cardiff a town the government want an apology?

Andrews has only recently jumped on the band wagon, he's been happy enough to get his face seen alongside Tan before then.

Bit unfair that, hes never embraced the Rebrand. He sits behind us in the ground and has worn a blue and white scarf with a big Bluebird on it to every game I can remember since the rebrand happened.

Leighton Andrews should be more concerned about apologising to the people of the Rhondda, he has failed them time & time again. Burberry where he saved not one job, Pentre school failed again, Royal Glamorgan Hospital another fail. He was education minister when the results in Wales nosedived. Represented the people of the Rhondda but lived in Cardiff. An ex-LibDem who jumped to Labour to get power. I think most Cardiff City fans would hope he kept this mouth shut.
