Cornelius

Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:50 pm

Very simple conversation had with someone who works at the Vale;

Cornelius was simply not to an expected level, where even in training his ability was questioned by observers(pro's and staff).
Save going round and around about what happened, he was just not any where near an 8 million pound player, losses cut now rather than pay extortionate wages over another season.

Re: Cornelius

No no no no NO! Lets bring Malky back!!!

Tan speaks sense about a lot of things, its a shame many of our fans can't see how Malky has always played an awful brand of football but got us promoted by signing good enough players with money from Tan. When we got promoted he spent too much on too little and on shit players = Extremely poor performance = Sack. That's fair enough.

Spot on. Spending all the money on 4 players Medel, caulker, cornelius, Brayford, 2 of whom didn't add nothing to the team. If Medel and caulker got injured were basically left with a championship team. They money should of been evened out to maybe 7 5 million pound players that were prem quality, atleast we would have some depth. Huddlestone for 1 was 5 mil, great buy better player than Medel IMO for under half the price.

That was the only part if Tans interview where he talked any sense

To be fair with malky and moody, you had a 19 year old in his first ever pro season bang 19 goals in.. We were not the only team bidding for him, clubs all around Europe where bidding and trying to get him. Whether or not that's in Denmark or in England, if a youngster does that in his first season people take notice..

He was offered for 600k to a prem team 6 months before apparently

Get over yourself you childish idiot. Not excuses at all, it's just modern day football... Francis Jeffers cost just as much in 2002.. I'm not saying it wasn't a mistake.. It could've just as easily worked out for us and we would be praising the performance. You wasn't complaining at the time we signed him. Same with all of our signings I bet. Without doubt I would've preferred to sign huddlestone.. But 8million is a drop in the ocean for a young striker who scores that many goals in his first ever season.. It was a risk we shouldn't of taken

Re: Cornelius

Wrong player at the wrong time and for too much money. If we got him for £2 million he could have been "one for the future".

Nightmare scenario.....
Young and raw in a different country AND Pressure of being a big money signing.
AND he got injured - he was a big lad who needed time to get fit.
AND MM played a style of football where there were no wingers and virtually no service.
AND then he was used as a ping pong in the battle between MM and VT
AND finally the fans got on his back -
result no confidence and no chance of showing his abilities. I am in a minority of one but I still think Cornelius should have been loaned out and that he will prob become a   very good player in time.

The irony is now we are getting balls into the box and we have Kenwynne Jones. Lets hope he starts scoring!

Well done to Ole for being ruthless and getting rid of straight away.

IWhy?
Agree Cornelius was too expensive and too inexperienced for what we needed. But was selling him off quickly just an appeasement to Vincent Tan. Cornelius was used as a pawn in the MM / VT battle of words/wills.
We should have loaned him out or at least have some clause to get him back. I still think he might be a future player, also have we gone on a goal scoring spree or a goal scoring famine since selling him?

45k a week where it could be used elsewhere and freed up the money for Ole to use.

He needed to be sold so more players could be brought in, why keep a player that offers nothing. His wages were to much for someone who done fucall, if he kept us in the prem then it would of been money well spent, but unfortunately he was league 1 at best.

Believe it or not he was given a straight red card last night in Copenhagen 5-1 defeat

Re: Cornelius

I hope we have some sort of clause in the deal that we receive some of the percentage in the fee.

I think he'll be good one day but sadly he was brought in at the wrong time and for a hefty fee.

I think loaning him out to the Championship would have been the best move but as Dando mentioned he was on a huge wage so best off if we freed them up so we could bring in others.

But I do wonder how much we got rid of him for, couldn't have been too much.
