Cardiff City: Solskjaer says he is in charge of football decisions

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he makes the football decisions at Cardiff City, but admits owner Vincent Tan wants 'transparency" over transfers.
Tan told BBC Sport that previous boss Malky Mackay overspent - a claim denied by the Scot.

Solskjaer insists Tan will not sign players, in spite of the Malaysian's claim that he will be "personally involved" in player recruitment.
"I manage the club with the resources ... that's what he is saying," he said.

"We do have a plan and I have resources - X-amount - and you spend that, and you don't spend X plus Y.
"Everything is in a structure and transparent, so he is involved and agrees and ticks off. There are no ifs and buts. He knows everything I have done."
Tan alleges in the interview that Mackay and ex-head of recruitment Iain Moody exceeded a £35m transfer budget by £15m - an accusation they deny.
Mackay and Moody also claim every deal was signed off by Cardiff chief executive Simon Lim.

Tan says he pays close attention to the transfer dealings and the financial matters at Cardiff.

"In the January transfer window, I was very involved," said Tan.
"We spent about £6m for seven players. In the summer, we signed seven players and committed almost £50m. I want to make sure we spend correctly. If I'm involved, I make better business decisions, getting better value for my money.
"Next summer I'm sure we will do better transfers because I will be personally involved. We're not going to let our manager run wild."

' Vincent Tan wants apology from fans '

Solskjaer says he and his staff identify any player they want to sign but admits Tan is now involved in the financial side of a transfer.
"He [Tan] is very willing to invest and he wants us to be successful, but he wants to know what we are doing," said Solskjaer, 41, who was appointed in January.
"He wants to know the ins and outs of it and it has to be transparent and in a structure. He is involved in that structure, but the football decisions are obviously mine."
Tan also gives Solskjaer, who has won one out of five games since taking charge, a vote of confidence and says he is "convinced" the former Manchester United striker will keep the Welsh club in the Premier League.
"I am not a person who wants a safe life and to have a job for 10 years or whatever - it's not how it is," said Solskjaer.
"A measure of a man is not when he stands in a zone of comfort, it is when challenges and adversity [are] there. That is when you have to show your personality and character.
"I have to prove I am good enough and I am sure I am."
Solskjaer also confirmed that Cardiff have a pre-contract agreement to sign 31-year-old Spanish striker Javi Guerra on a free transfer from Real Valladolid in the summer.
"He is a goalscorer we need. We tried to get him before the transfer window. They didn't want to sell him because he is their top scorer and they are in a relegation battle, "said Solskjaer.
"He has scored 12 now in La Liga and that is not bad for a team in the relegation zone."

I guess Ole will offer help to Tan(if he does stay) and say how much he values a player, if both can agree that the player is worth that much he will pay it. I would like to see Ole run if Tan ever got involved fully over transfers, a manager should not feel intimidated

Most clubs run similar. Policy of manager wanting players and ceo or the like do the deal contracts ect, not always good as laudrup named 5 players he wanted he got none! And after summer debarcle cant blame tan for changing his stance. Time will tell if its good idea.

seems the best way it should of been done from the start

Ole will have to be very very strong if he to be in charge of who comes in. I honestly can see another disaster ahead as Tan will take control in the end as he can't help himself.

i know hes a muppet tan but i actually think hel let ole go about his business i think he respects him unlike malky where he never so much i think he will let him bring in the players he wants just not for stupid amounts of money and after the last transfer window you cant really blame him after spending £50 million.. anyone would be pissed off if you give someone money and alot of players were quite shit!

I hope we do get bought out mind and he will eventually leave but hes here for another few years yet i reckon

You are right about Ole and you may well be right about a disaster ahead Annis.

However, the next transfer window is a very long way off and there are going to be more twists and turns during the remainder of the season.

Whatever we all may or may not think of Tan, one thing we should all 100% agree on is getting behind our team and becoming our 12th man again.

The end of the season is a long way off and we as fans of the team have some business to finish, let's support our team whatever happens. It's the only team we have. :ayatollah:

After the recent performances I think that OGS should take the opportunity to say that Tan picked the team!

The club is a disgrace to its loyal fans

Shows how bad Tan is that OGS feels he has to say something like this. Again this talk of a Summer 'debacle' seems to be straight out of the mouth of Tan. What was this 'debacle' exactly? Simon Lim and ultimately Tan are totally blame for any 'over spend'. A manager's perogative is to win football matches or am I missing something?

Of what i have read, he fiddled that challenge well. Stating that the owner at molde makes tan look like a lollipop..
But again.. Thats just homework..

yes then we would not have had situation being levelled against malky! tan is saying basically he left malky and co to be responsible about players ect obviously was a mistake and he will now rectify it by being personally involved with negociations!
nothing wrong in that as long as he stays clear of who ole wants, despite reservations i dont think he will! :old:

This is the problem, we're always waiting for the next disaster. Fans say managers are inapt to manage our football club, well this doughnut is completely inapt do run our football club. It's painful now but I can only see it getting worst.

Vince knows everything about football now, why does he need Ole to tell him who he should sign?

Well. One of the problems is the likes of Annis the domsdayprepper saying things like this. My statement is actually very true!
Like the always are  The owner at molde is worth almost 3 times more than wt`s money and truly makes him look like a lollipop. If leaders like you mr annis lead by example, cardiff would be a much nicer place. But no, anything for your own case..
Ohhh wait, i can see somethings in the horizon! It like the blind leading the blind...

Are you talking about Malky's transfer disasters? I can bet that we won't be wasting as much money in the future.
