Steven Caulker gets England call up

Southampton defender Luke Shaw has been named in the England squad for the international friendly against Denmark at Wembley next Wednesday.
Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, 19, and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, 20, are also in Roy Hodgson's 30-man squad.


England squad:
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Cardiff City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Craig Noone could score every game from now till Rio and he wouldn't go.

Just said on SSN that he wasn't in the original 30 but due to Jagielka and Jones being injured he called him in. Personally I think it would be more beneficial for England to call Caulker up more often as he's only young and definitely has the quality to play for England

Me too. With the exception of Jagielka and John Terry, Caulker is the best English centre half in the Premier League. Smalling is a better fullback, and Jones is a better holding midfield player than centre halves.

Only downfall for Davies is his age. Apart from that, he's been as good, if not better than Caulker this season.

I do feel that Caulker should be in the squad to give him the experience of training with an international team, but he's not ready to be starting for England in any way, shape or form.

I don't know many players who have ripped Pablo Zabaleta and Kolorov apart in one game. Give the boy credit, he's been exceptional at times this season. We're not half the side when he doesn't play.

He needs to stop backing off if he's going to get a full cap

The fact you called Smalling a better fullback shows how much you know. He's dire there, he is too defensive focused for a fullback and god damn awful in attack. He is best played as a CB, and there's no way Caulker will get the nod over two United defenders.

Jones is also a better CB in general. He is wasted at DM.

Strange isn't it that Caulker is in but Michael Dawson who was preferred at Spurs wasn't selected.
