Tactics against Spurs?

Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:15 pm

For me, I don't want us the go to spurs and go for the win, we need points and I would be happy with a 0-0 draw! My team for Sunday would be...

Marshall

Super Kev
Cala
Caulker
KTC

Medal
Gunners

Noone
Mutch
Bellers

Jones

I think we won't be able to pass the ball like we want to against spurs, so we need big Ken up front for that out ball, Mutch can drive at the spurs defense and cause them a lot of problems! But for me if we conced then it's game over, bringing in medal and gunners will add extra protection for us at the back!

In the second half bring Zaha and maybe Mats on, to maybe get us a goal, but if we're winning then bring cowie on for bellers and make sure we bring home the points! I'm pretty confident that if we go into the game right and have the right mind set we can bring back some much needed points! :ayatollah:

Score more than them and concede less than them. That should do it.

I agree with pretty much all of that. I haven't forgiven KTC for pulling out of the tackle that led to Wigan's first goal so I would personally have John and McNaughton as the full backs. Spurs have small, nippy wingers like Lennon and Townsend anyway, so I would be confident with John and McNaughton using their pace to deal with them more than any of our other full backs. John dealt with Walcott after all. I would also never allow Zaha near a football pitch for us ever again after pulling out of countless tackles last Saturday. I agree with Jones up front for this game IF he's prepared to put a shift in. But overall, I think your tactics, formation and game plan are spot on.

I'd give Malky a ring ask him what he thinks cause Ole won't have a clue,5-0 Spurs

Ask Malky for away tactics

He could start by asking how he managed to come away with a point from Hull. Lol as I said 5-0 Spurs

Re: Tactics against Spurs?

We should play:

---------------------Marshall----------------------
KTC------Caulker---Turner----Calas-------John
------------------Medel-------Mutch-------------
Noone------------------------------------Bellamy
-----------------------Fraizer------------------------

Hull play 5 at the back sometimes. Calas and Caulker are nimble enough to join attacks.

What Ole will play:

-----------------------Marshall-------------------------

'Insert no defence here'

Bellamy--Noone--Zaha--Eikrem--Medel--Jones--Berget--Dhaeli

Fabio------------------------------Campbell--------------------------------

Not a bad idea, although I think if we played 5 at the back id play Fabio and id also play Zaha ahead of Bellamy but like the idea.

Defend well and break quickly on the counter attack.......thats how most sides have beaten them. Can we move the ball from defence to attack quickly enough to do this ??? we need whitts on form in there to get the ball forward......and his confidence is shot.

If Gary, Mutch and Bellars are all back in contention I think I'd throw all three back into the starting lineup. I've not been particularly impressed with Bellars of late but I think we've missed his intensity and leadership whilst he's been suspended. A toughie for me is whether to play Mutch in a 2 with Gary or play him off the top in a more attacking role because I think he is most effective picking up the ball in advanced positions driving with the ball.

Two teams I'm torn between:

Marshall----------------------- Marshall
Kev -----------------------------Kev
Caulker------------------------Caulker
Turner-------------------------Turner
John---------------------------John

Medel--------------------------Medel
Eikrem------------------------Mutch

Noone-------------------------Noone
Mutch-------------------------Bellamy
Bellamy-----------------------Daehli

Campbell---------------------Campbell

Kev has to start for me, Theo and Fabio have been woeful lately and I'd also go for young Declan at Left Back ultimately for his pace, Spurs have too many quick direct wingers to choose from that would cause Taylor too much trouble. Tough to pick Turner over Cala but I think we really need to go back to basics when it comes to defending for this one and against Villa Big Ben was back to his no nonsense self. Zaha doesn't warrant a starting place either for me.

2) More beer in the Harringay irish club bythe ground
3) INTO THE GROUND UPPER TIER---that could be tricky
4) Then prey
5) Then off for my train with 3 points  bluebirds :ayatollah: :D
