At least two Chelsea supporters were stabbed in clashes around Istanbul's Taksin Square on Tuesday night, the eve of the first leg of the club's Champions League knockout tie against Galatasaray.

Trouble reportedly flared after a bar being frequented by English fans was targeted in a city that has been on high alert over political and social unrest over recent days. Local demonstrations are scheduled for Wednesday in Taksin Square as protests escalate against the current government in Turkey.

There had been clashes between fans of Galatasaray and Besiktas before their derby on Saturday, with Chelsea having issued warnings to their fans prior to travelling to Turkey.

Two Leeds fans were killed in clashes between the clubs' supporters in the city before the Yorkshire side's Uefa Cup semi-final in 2000.

anyway..i agree its shit and cowardly. i remember a palace fan just jumping out of a van and stabbing one of your boys to death on the corner of sloper road. .i was in the ground that night,heard a rumour someone had been stabbed but didnt hear he had dies or the circumstances until nxt day..it sounded pretty random, and ive often thought since it could have been me..coz as i heard it the guy doing the stabbing wernt to bothered who it was he stabbed......and hardly anyone wore colours back then..

I went to Turkey and watched Besiktas and also the Istanbul derby between Fernebahce vs Galatasaray.

Before I went I had the same opinion of Turks, that they were horrible stinking cunts but I have got to say I found them great. They love football with an absolute passion and their knowledge of the game is second to none. They knew more about Cardiff than a lot of Cardiff fans and this was before we were in the premier league.

I think if you treat them with respect you'll be fine but I have always said to my mates that it's not the type of place I'd like to go mobbed up. They are volatile as f**k. I saw at least 10 fights in the four days I was out there. An argument broke out in the street in broad day light and they were pouring out of the shops with meat cleavers and wot not!

Like I say, if you go out there and show their culture a bit of respect you'll be fine but if you go over like your stereotypical brit mob you are likely to come unstuck.

Having said all that it's a nightmare that people have been stabbed, hope they're ok.
