CITY YOUNGSTERS GET INTERNATIONAL CALL-UPS

Tue Feb 25, 2014 8:04 pm

City pair Declan John and Tommy O’Sullivan have been called up to the Wales Under-21 squad for their upcoming qualification match with England on Wednesday 5th March.

The game, which is to be played at Derby County’s Ipro Stadium, sees Declan John and Tommy O’Sullivan meet up with the squad in the midlands following the Bluebirds’ upcoming Barclays Premier League tie with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

18-year-old full-back John has a senior cap for his country, and remains on Chris Coleman's standby list for their International friendly with Iceland at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday 5th March, allowing under-21 boss Geraint Williams to name him in his Under-21 squad for this crucial qualification tie.

The squad in full:

Connor ROBERTS (Cheltenham Town), Morgan FOX (Charlton Athletic), Adam HENLEY (Blackburn Rovers), Joe WALSH (Crawley Town), George RAY (Crewe Alexandra), Lee LUCAS (Swansea City), Declan JOHN (Cardiff City), Daniel ALFEI (Swansea City (on loan at Portsmouth)), Tommy O’SULLIVAN (Cardiff City), Tom LAWRENCE (Manchester United (on-loan at Yeovil Town)), Lloyd ISGROVE (Southampton), Lee EVANS (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Billy BODIN (Torquay United), Wes BURNS (Bristol City), Rob OGLEBY (Wrexham), Gwion EDWARDS (Swansea City).

It's better for Dec to be called up to this squad rather than the senior squad. He probably wouldn't start for the seniors in front of Taylor and Davies whereas he's a shoe in to start against England. Be better for him to gain a bit of experience ready for the qualifiers. By then I'm confident he'll be ready to start for Wales :ayatollah:

Supprised Theo Wharton doesn't get into the squad he's a better player than O'Sullivan IMO.

Yes Rhys Healy is English but qualifies for Wales, he has been asked to play for Wales and has agreed.

Healy was born in Mancester and only moved to Wales 4 years ago. He does not qualify to play for Wales on the following grounds: - place of birth, parents place of birth, grandparents place of birth and has not had 5 years of statutory education provision before his 18th birthday.

Therefore, unfortantely he is not qualified to play for Wales. He has confirmed this himself on twitter.
