Dortmund

Watching Dortmund winning at Zenit 4-2 with my dad and we both agree how great it would be to watch a Dortmund game. I just looked up Dortmund's yellow wall to remind myself how amazing it is. I wish our fans could create a blue wall like this!

It won't happen, different culture in British football. Especially our spoilt fans, if they can't be assed to stay 90 mins, how can they be assed to stay with flags, posters, scarves and choreographed displays

The Dortmund wall looks spectacular and I can only dream of us creating something remotely similar.

It's the British fans fault but also the people who govern the game etc. Our stadium isn't built for displays, it's just a row of seats, no where to hang flags or that unless it's at the back and then they're barely seen and you've gotta ask if it's okay cos it might cover advertising. If we get relegated but want to create an atmosphere, we need to have a fan group make these kind of displays, not an anti re-brand display but just a display/group for atmosphere

Re: Dortmund

Looks great and all and I'd love it if more of our fans could take scarves and flags etc.

But the big thing I hate about football right now is the Dortmund wankfest. There's much better fans out the in my opinion

A display/group for atmosphere would be a great idea. I believe Celtic have the "green corner" where they're all dressed in green generating an atmosphere. I think Man Utd have a section of Old Trafford now where fans wanting to generate an atmosphere can all congregate together. Perhaps something similar can be introduced at our stadium. I know to an extent, we have the 3 standing aisles within the Canton. But the atmosphere could still be much better. At the end of the day, I think you're spot on with our fans at the moment. I don't think the majority of us can be bothered and the fans who can are being priced out of games.

The fans who can afford it and want to make a difference need to put their names forward and help with the atmosphere, we once had an intimidating atmosphere so there's no reason why we can't

To be honest I think German football takes some beating and Dortmund are amongst the best. But lower league German clubs have amazing supporters too. Take this 23 minute long clip of Dynamo Dresden fans for example! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkkMf6Sg9Tg

Re: Dortmund

British football is slowly but surely being turned into a spectator sport, like tennis. Can't even fart at a football match these days without the threat of court aperrences and banning orders. Health and safety gone mad over here. I'd say the british football fan got it hard and German football fans are the ones that are spoilt. Sure I read somewhere that a season ticket over there is something like 100euros for clubs like Bayern. Football over here is out pricing the working class fan. Its losing its identity

British "fans" are just spectators! They wouldnt even dream of taking flags to a stadium; they just couldn’t be arsed! Foreign fans are just that, everything they do is with passion. Have you ever seen some of the caricatures they display on flags? Absolutely amazing. It not just sport its every facet of their lives, including politics. Far more hostile than us too. Thats why British fans abroad are " easy meat"!

Re: Dortmund

I cant be arsed with the German football wankfest full stop.

Watched both Spanish and Italian football matches live and quiet honestly German football just doesn't interest me at all.

The clubs are owned by fans whoppie f*cking do yet supporter owned clubs are just full of people who cant managed their own personal budget let alone a football clubs budget!!! Locally you can take Merthyr as an example, its not the supporters who are keeping them afloat its the University of Wales propping them up!!!!

A fan owned team reached the Champions League final, so I'm sure they can manage their own budget :thumbright:

compare that to the number of non fan owned teams who have reached it ?

Fan owned clubs is bollox, all it would be is a group of people who haven't got two pence to rub together trying to manage budgets of millions of pounds FFS!!!

Football fan owned clubs are only on here because of Tans antics. Well surely if he had 'proper' fan pressure at the start do you really think he would have gone through with it ?

You obviously haven't got a clue have you. Merthyrs plastic turf was funded by the University of Wales so that their students can play on it. Within the agreement the football club cam rent the pitch out hense where they get the extra money to help 'prop up the club'.

Maybe an apology is in order ? Probably not

Its a Supporters Trust which runs the club yet people have constantly had a go at the Supporters Trust now and they are a very small shareholder. Imagine them with 100% shares for f**k sake!!!

You can't be surprised by the Dortmund wankfest, their one of few teams who get noticed for their support and noise due to being in the Champions League.

Watched Olympiacos tonight and their fans were incredible before the game right until the final whistle.

You can name a fair bit of teams who are louder but because their not in the Champions League they won't get the credit etc.

Not surprised by it, just think it's annoying. Great fans and all, but nowhere near St. Pauli or some of the Italian teams. And although the Turkish fans are thugs, their support is incredible. Along with Olympiakos as you said

I guess the bandwagon is annoying. I was brought up around both British Football and German Football, don't see my German relatives as much as I used too.

You can name a few teams but due to attention like ST Pauli they won't get the praise as no-one watches Europa League Football barely or the league they play in.

Dortmund manage to get the credit or plaudits due to being televised on BT Sport and Champions League games.

I guess Italian Football people haven't noticed as much due to AC Milan and Inter Milan slipping down and their ground not being filled out as much it used too.

I guess it's down to mainly the armchairs supporters who hype them up, they have no widespread knowledge on the support of other clubs such as ST. Pauli.

I'm assuming you've seen the Dynamo Dresden video when they prepare the flag, streamers etc before their game against St Pauli (I've posted the link in this thread). Do you think St Pauli's fans are even better than Dresden's then?

I get what you're saying about Dortmund getting the plaudits because they're televised. It's the same in every country with the best teams getting exposed. Galatasaray for instance are renowned for their "welcome to hell" atmosphere, which is intimidating as hell, but there are probably lots of smaller Turkish clubs not many of us are aware about who are just as passionate and intimidating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNN7VFOn1aw
