Goal scoring solution, anyone?

Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:36 pm

Its obvious to all that our lack of goals is primarily to blame for our current league standing in my opinion. Defence hasn't been great, but the failure to score and lets be honest there have been opportunities in most games, is it time to play Bellamy upfront with Rudy sat just behind him? Zaha and Noone to supply the ball and dahli and Whitts sat in the middle with Medel when fit sat in front of a back 3. The back 3 well thats anyones guess, but we need goals, fast. Its go for it time or just go down with out any fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ayatollah:

I didn't mean Gestede, Kim I meant, although Rudy I had a lot of time for.
Heavy weekend.

I sound like a broken record but we have lacked at full back and upfront since Malky took over, having spent a lot of money and a lot of players been brought in you would think we would have had better Left Back, Right backs and strikers.

Oddly enough I said the same thing to my mate last week. His argument is there are better players available in the "hole" and I couldn't disagree (Daelhi for one!) But my point is I am 100% sure if you put Whitts behind the striker with 2 doggers behind him so he know he only has to concentrate on what he does best, being attack minded, then you'll see a different player entirely.

Is he good enough at Prem level to play this role? you won't know unless you try - plus he's got a belter of a left peg so anywhere from 25 yards if there's nothing on feel free to find the top corner!

not sure myself, but he scored 20 in 41 a few seasons back and we have nobody at the club including Bellers who has ever got near that

Make Jones cut his hair! Takes 20 p off his shoulder, and might be able to run down a chance :D

My main concern is the two up top are powder puff at best (Sorry Campbell lovers but he's not up to it). However we've got no one else, Bellers could play up front with Jones but he's hardly ever been prolific. Daelhi...Healy...huge ask to throw them in and hope they bang in 7 or 8 goals to keep us up.

Jones, sorry, but I don't think he is any better than Gestede, more experienced sure, but less mobile and Gestede worked a lot harder for the team when he played - that said I understand Ole snapping Hughes' hands off when the chance to swap Jones and Odemwingie became available. Jones is a target man, but he just doesn't seem fit.

I would like to have seen Jones on his own, Zaha right, Noone left and Daelhi/Whitts or Eikrem in the hole. Now don't get me wrong, I never wanted Zaha, never rated him (see previous posts) but you just hope one of his flicks comes off. That said his performance for 45 minutes against Hull was shambolic, gutless and I hope he never puts the shirt on again.

So my new formation would have Bellers out wide instead of Zaha.

I just want to see a bit of fight (almost literally but I'm not a yob!) At the moment we are going down with a whimper and that's what hurts the most. Clearly we are not good enough technically to compete at this level, but you can't tell me we are THAT worse than the bottom half of the Premiership and if the players believed they can get results if they left nothing on the pitch after 90+ minutes then you just never know what they can achieve.

I applaud Ole's philosophy to get the ball down and play, but there is a time and a place. This is not the time. This is the time to roll your sleeves up and get in the faces of the opposition, hassle them higher up the pitch, make them make the mistakes we are making, sieze on to the second ball and make things happen.

Please. :ole: :ayatollah:

Back 3?
I don't recall us ever playing a back 3. I don't think now is the time to be that drastic, I mean we're all over the place as it is & the players know that system inside out - or should do!

Joe mason hasn't even been given a chance with a run in the team he would score more than jones and campbell

the only manager to get anything like true potential out of Jay was DJ....i like him but he under performed everywhere else he has been and for some pretty good managers.

We should have bitten the bullet and paid out for Defoe at the start of the season.High wages yes but we have wasted money on other players that did not have a prooven record of scoring at top level like him.

i think defoe would of been a great signing pity he's gone to the states

Joe Mason. I'd love to have seen him coming off the bench for Campbell, he'd do well against tired defenders and he's one of the coolest finishers I've seen at City

mason/healey both massive potential and unknown quantity in the prem. they already have more british experience than the norwegians they brought in so why not bring them on for 20 mins i dont know.
