Am I the only one to not rate him highly ? He is at fault for quite a number of goals and is often out of position yet he seems to escape criticism . If it was Turner or Hudson they would be hammered .
Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:07 pm
Absolutely correct. I think we have all been seduced into believing he is a great player without actually watching his game. He looks almost as if he has resigned himself not going to the World Cup and doesn't give a damn anymore.

I suggested Cala and Turner for the Hull game in an earlier thread and was laughed at.

Caulker is a class act and could go on to be a regular for england one day, he has been let down with with the lack of talent playing alongside him this season, yes he has made mistakes but he is obviously losing faith in his partners he gets every week, he must feel as if he's pissing against the wind at times.
Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:10 pm
No doubt he's a class player. Feel sorry for him and Campbell, they deserve to be playing alongside better quality players
Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:10 pm
You're right, he was poor yesterday but had that been Turner he would have been slaughtered.
A young england player that the media love, seeing as most idiots form their footballing views on what the media tells them to, he will never get hammered in the way Hudson, Turner, Whitts etc would, even if he was playing poorly.
Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:51 pm
Imagine if it had been Whitts ( a true City legend ) that had given that ball away for their first goal !!
Sun Feb 23, 2014 5:02 pm
I've said it for months, he's a ball watcher, loses his man too easily, too nice for a centre half, no aggression in him whatsoever. Over-rated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mayhem, or if Whitts was ineffective as our midfield
Wasn't in the loss to a championship team nor in our heaviest home defeat for a decade.......

God help us, he has been consistently good all season, and is running out of partners, he will be gone next season, and if Spurs have any sense will break the bank and buy him back
Sun Feb 23, 2014 6:24 pm
I've been saying this for ages. In my opinion he should be dropped !
We've tried many options in the defense and he's the only one who's consistently kept his place yet the problem is never fixed and that's because he is the problem.
Also another thing that pissed me off yesterday was when he tweeted after the game that as captain he was sorry for the performance and that it was unacceptable , well as captain why didn't he do something about it on the f*cking pitch rather than speaking up on bloody twitter ! the first went in and the best thing he could do was kick the ball away in frustration exactly what a captain should be doing

The only person throughout the whole match who was trying to get the players motivated and keep them going was Andrew Taylor. He's only 22 much to young and inexperienced to be a captain of a premier league team.

Campbell? Are you having a laugh? Championship striker no way premiership class

He was the weak link and responsible for not picking up his man. Fabio was dragged inside having to mark 2 players.
Turner and Cala please.
Sun Feb 23, 2014 6:43 pm
You're talking about a fella whose played along side an experienced centre half all his career ... King, Williams, and Dawson. He's early twenties and been asked to lead a back four, not an easy task. Yesterday he had Cowie, who rarely played centre midfield of four last season and Ekrim who has been thrown in at the deep end.
Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:04 pm
He's the best defender we have and is constantly baby sitting the back 4 as he can't rely on them to defend.
Just watching the goals again. Absolutely shocking defending from Cala and Taylor who should never wear the shirt again this season was at fault for 3 of the goals. He gives the team nothing. None of them take defensive responsibility by picking up a player, they were just simply marking fresh air. Shocking.

He tries to pass on caulker who is trying to get back into position for Jelavic header. Not been a huge fan of Turner but he's a better defender plus he was man of the match in the last game he played
Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:21 pm
I didn't think yesterday that any of the back four have any aggression in them and are likely to lose a 50/50 tackle.I think Cala is a good footballer but last week against Wigan,he had a chance where he may have got clobbered but didn't put his head in and hit the post.Against Norwich,OGS was singing the praises of Turner yet he dropped him against Wigan. We don't seem to have much of a plan defensively and we're too easy to open up and concede goals. I can't believe that fans will leave as early as 60 minutes and although it was hard to take losing yesterday,I still enjoy watching them, although it would be better in blue.As I was walking out of the game,I saw a man give his season ticket to a steward.
Sun Feb 23, 2014 10:04 pm
He was at fault for the 3rd goal he was nowhere near Jelavics

Not really, Taylor's fault, he was calling for Caulker to mark him yet Taylor was closer.
Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:34 am
He's our best CB but yeah he has some serious deficiencies. He seldom gets the ball and gives it to a team mate. Stuck in the Malky clear it, lump it get it away mindset. This gives the opposition posession 40-50% of the time.
Also he has zero business being captain, too quiet not a leader.
Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:49 am
Caulker looked good for us, although he did have the influence of Ashley Williams next to him. He wasnt comfotable with the ball at his feet however and did have positional issues. He also had personal issues with gambling and attitude so its probably not just sheer luck Tottenham decided to sell him. Hes certainly looked like hes gone backwards since he signed for you.
I think he is struggling being seen as "the senior defender".
He has the same luxury as Gary Medel however and has come to the club under a shroud of hype. He wont get the same criticism that others would in his position if given the exact same performance. A lot of the time when Medel or Caulker play bad its usually "they are class and are being let down by everyone else". Rather than see whats in front of them, far better to blame someone else instead of criticize a multi million pound player who everybody enjoys hyping.
Decent defender in the right side but he isnt looking assured at all this season.

That's because he was out of position covering Taylors ass. Anybody who's played football would know that he should have stepped into Caulker position to cover him until hed got back.

See what i mean

No doubt a terrific defender, who was outstanding at the start of the year, but he's really gone off the boil now.
I'd say having the captaincy is doing him no favours either.
