Cardiff City star Wilfried Zaha challenged to earn World Cup place by England boss Roy Hodgson
Tuesday 18th Feb 2014

Hodgson has named the Cardiff City flier as one of the wide men he is considering picking for next month’s friendly international against Denmark.

Engalnd manager Roy Hodgson has challenged Wilfried Zaha to go out and prove he is worth a place in the World Cup this summer.

Hodgson has named the Cardiff City flier as one of the wide men he is considering picking for next month’s friendly international against Denmark.

He is hoping Zaha forces his World Cup hand with scintillating displays for the Bluebirds as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League in the next few weeks.

Tottenham’s Andros Townsend has emerged as Hodgson’s first choice wide man in the absence of the injured Theo Walcott, with Liverpool ace Daniel Sturridge also capable of playing on the wing.

But Hodgson named Zaha as part of a group of six others who he believes can make an 11th hour bid for his squad at this summer’s finals in Brazil.

Others in the frame are Liverpool’s in-form winger Raheem Sterling, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Aaron Lennon (Spurs), Adam Johnson (Sunderland) and Nathan Redmond (Norwich).

“We’re not short of wide players, we’re awash,” said Hodgson.

“Sterling’s form seems to be going up and up since he got back in the Liverpool side.

“You’ve got Zaha back in the frame again because he’s playing football at Cardiff.

“Redmond is back at Norwich doing very, very well.

“So is Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Lennon is still there. Adam Johnson is another one.

“What it means is that we do have competition in the wide areas.

“These players have got everything to play for. I will have to make a choice.

“It’s going to be my choice, how many of that type of player do I want to include in the squad and which ones. You don’t know what the months are going to bring.”

If Zaha is being looked at, you'd have to say that they must have looked at Nooney too.

I just want to know where this reputation has come from?
I've seen him so many times when he was at Palace and between them Darcy and Kev always had him on toast.
He gets signed for £15m and I thought well if SAF sees something in him then who am I to question the lad?
Utd struggle this season an Zaha still can't get a look in ahead of Nani, Valencia, Young, none of which have set the Premiership alight.
So he get's loaned to us and lack of match fitness or not he seems to be exactly what I've always thought - an overrated show pony who has pace granted, but f all else, except a gigantic chip on his shoulder thinking he's the world's greatest, which I hope Bellamy knocks out of him in training.

He "loosely" reminds me of Ronaldo when he first turned up at Utd. Step-overs a plenty, pace and an arrogance that needed shaving which SAF did over time.

Can he follow in Ronaldo's footsteps? On balance of what I've seen of his career so far, not a chance.

this Could be used as a boost for all the players. All other players feel they are on level with Zaha .
They may start thinking positive about their own skill from this. :ayatollah:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Wilfried Zaha to go to World Cup with England

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident that Wilfried Zaha will be included in England's World Cup squad this summer in Brazil.

The 21-year-old has joined the Bluebirds on loan until the end of the season after failing to break into David Moyes's Manchester United first team.

Despite his lack of playing time, Solskjaer believes that the former Crystal Palace player has all the attributes to be worthy of a World Cup place.

"If he plays well, Wilfried could be on the plane to Brazil," Wales Online quotes Solskjaer as saying. "He has been bright in training and has taken on board what he has been told.

"It's not about Wilf helping us, we have to help each other. He is a shy lad but has certainly not shown a lack of confidence in training."

Zaha made the permanent move to Old Trafford last summer.
