Has anyone noticed fitness levels drop?

Sun Feb 16, 2014 3:34 pm

It doesn't take long for fitness levels to drop and Solksjaer has been here almost 2 months now.

Has anyone noticed that the team doesn't seem as fit as they were under Malky?

Malky's team would always fight to the final whistle and keep running [even if it was in our own 18 yard box]

I can't help but feel that Malky's grinding, hard working style would have kept us up.

Malkys teams always faultered after January.

I disagree, I never thought we were that fit under Malky specially after the first half of a season. Taylor, Whitts and Medel always looked like they were gassing after an hour.

Agree. We would concede a lot of late goals

Milky was famous for driving his players into the ground fitness wise. Nearly all his clubs have struggled after January as they are knackered. Same happened at City and Watford.

The players seem burnt out from all the running they had to do under milky. Ever since milky has been in charge the team has faltered in the 2nd half of the season due to burn out.

YES I NOTICED IT IN FEBRUARY 2012...AND LAST YEAR AROUND THE SAME TIME........you can only push anything so hard before you exhaust it.........results dropped off in them years too, as they did at Watford in 2011, and 2010.......

One of the stroies I've heard was regarding Malky and Bellamy.

With Bellamy dodgy knee he was not capable of producing what Malky wanted. Apparently this was an issue of which Malky was very stubborn about.

Malky seemed stubborn full stop............all this clean living dossier nonsense, even Fergie made exceptions , as long as Malky was here we would never sign a Gazza a Best a Bowles or a Robin Friday...........just variations of Robbie Savage

Agree. And never come back from it. We would just take it lying down. Malky's conditioning of our players has worn it out of them. Odemwingie highlighted this

Malkys fault. Solksjaer could rape a goat on the field and it would be Malkys fault.

Haven't we all learnt this yet?.

That's funny and all but it does seem the be Makky's way to go hell for leather too get points then players are too tired in the second half of the season. It's like his micro approach to football (ie one match) taken to the macro level across the season.

That said, if you're a prem team there is no excuse and you can blame Malky for fitness levels at this point.

you get burn out in all sports, with football the players need to attain a certain level of fitness that can be maintained for 9 months........i agree, All Malky could see was he could get MORE right then. his 4 full seasons as a manager support this theory.......a theory many including myself had 30 months ago......

Your fitness is built up/topped up in pre season training and the start of the season.prividing you dont miss games it does not take much to keep it at a decent level.I think some of our players need a kick up the arse not fitness training. An 18 year old boy and don cowie showed more desire than some of them on Saturday.

Too right Denzil.
It's more about desire & motivation from the manager to close down etc.
I'd add Campbell to your list of 2 as well.
