ALL THIS SELLING OURSELVES FOR THE PREMIERSHIP???

Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:29 am

Virtually every day someone is coming out with the statement, "we sold out for premiership football" are people conveniently forgetting when the ridiculous re-brand actually took place???? it was in the summer two years ago just after we were thumped in the play offs against west ham, yes we were in the CHAMPIONSHIP possibly the hardest league in the world to get out of due to the riches on offer, there was no guarantee that we would get promoted ask leeds, wolves forest and all the teams who have come down from the premiership and have still not got back there. Malky, to his credit done it with a £15 million budget now if it was that easy don't you think all the other teams would be throwing that amount of money at it????? I hate seeing us play in red and it's the first time that i have never bought any of the merchandise on offer, but for me (and i think the majority of city fans) the re-brand was accepted because of the financial mess we were in and the promise of changing debt to equity (which i've no doubt will be completed soon) not for premiership football which could never be guaranteed.

Well perhaps its because people are quite happy to quote that its Tans money that got us to the premier.

Absolute twaddle. How come when your debt is mentioned or the current end of year financial statement is brought up people dont want to know and there was hardly anything mentioned when they were released.

It was never read or dead as your director confirmed. It was red or firesale, possible administration and thus relegation. And it was chosen RED.

Tan relented under fan criticism if you remember, "we will not go ahead with the rebrand, we will have to source investment from elsewhere".... Te Prem dream was slipping so you ASKED for the change. Anything else other than that is clearly nonsense and smacks of people trying to convince themselves they did it for financial security.

If that were the case then the finances would be the main talking point on here. Yet instead we have people moaning that Tan wasnt going to extend the transfer budget by £50 million for a january splurge. You have to look yourself in the face and realise it all wasnt worth it and act upon it instead of making excuses.

What has any of this drivel got to do with the main point of my OP???? point being, how did we sell out for premiership football when we were actually in the championship with NO GUARANTEE of promotion. (that's my one and only reply to you)

We were Never Dead or Red a Fact

Certain fans bought the Red,endorsed it,wore it, showed of in it and even had pictures all over FB celebrating showing the Red tops off, beliitled the ones that stayed BLUE and even bullied them all Facts.

Thats not a Reluctant Red, a reluctant Red is a fan who supports his team and wears BLUE to keep our identity going. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We could of all stayed BLUE and united and passionate and proud, this club lost all of that, thanks to the Red Bullies and Tans followers.
And it was done all for so called Premiership false Glory.

Or are certain fans now feeling guilty that they turned a blind eye to Tan's actions for a bit of Premiership glory that may not last much longer? Or has the penny finally dropped that Tan is after all the clown that a few of us have always known.

Dont be so ridiculous.

It was accepted because people thought you were getting £100m and were as a result nailed on for the premier league.

The hype on here surrounding the rebrand was insatiable.

Dont reply all you like, you just cant face the reality of the subject. Premier League was the aim from the get go,whether it was guaranteed is irrelevant, it was a chance you were clearly willing to take. You and hull spent the most (net) in the .championship and finished first and second resoectively. Its no coincidence.

Both of the above combined in a nutshell

Bang on the money.

I would also point out that the key phrase that Tan used when he told us he would seek further investors was that he still had a fondness for the club and that he would leave us in good hands. How some idiots interpreted this as going into administration never ceases to amaze me.

"Good hands" is avery selective term, he probably regards his own as good too :D

But yes. Your point is essentially correct.

I agree that "good hands" is not a water tight guarantee which might have carried a certain amount of risk but it never meant certain administration as some fans would have you believe. Given the choice now, I wonder how many fans would take the gamble ?
