Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to be downbeat despite worrying FA Cup loss to Wigan
The Bluebirds now have only a survival battle to look forward to after being ditched out of the FA Cup by Championship opposition
Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted the Bluebirds would not feel sorry for themselves after being dumped out of the FA Cup by holders Wigan.
Solskjaer was left to focus on the battle for Premier League survival after Wigan bridged the gap between the bottom of the top flight and the top half of the Championship to add to Cardiff’s increasing misery.
“I wouldn’t even say pretty disappointing, it’s very disappointing,” said Solskjaer.
“We had the majority of the possession, the majority of the shots, more chances, but when you don’t take chances you’re not going to win games.
“The first goal to concede is a poor one. I thought it was a stupid foul to give away, then we don’t clear our lines.
“We should have headed it clear, but the second goal we can’t do anything about - that’s a wonder strike by the kid (Ben Watson). That was the two shots they had on target.”

Solskjaer’s side lie 19th in the Premier League and are two points from the safety mark heading into next weekend’s crunch home game with Hull.
“I don’t know any other way than work hard, believe in what you’re doing, don’t feel sorry for yourself,” said Solskjaer when asked how Cardiff would respond to this latest setback.
“That’s the only way to get out of a bad spell as a footballer, as a team, as a club and that’s what you’ve got to do.
“You’ve got to believe in each other, trust in each other and we’ve got a big, big game next weekend - Hull.”
Despite losing to a team from the Championship, which Cardiff won and got promoted from last year, Solskjaer added: “They are a good side. They are the holders, he’s (Uwe Rosler) done really well with them for the months he’s been there.
“They play good football, they’ve got good players - probably got more Premier League experience than we have - so of course we didn’t play mugs, we played a good team with good players.”
Wigan boss Rosler, like Solskjaer a former manager of Norwegian club FK Molde, was delighted with the Latics’ progression into the last eight – but admitted he did not see Ben Watson’s sparkling winner.
“I didn’t see the second goal,” he said. “I just turned around and the ball was in.”
Despite a commanding performance, Watson was taken off early in the second half.
Rosler revealed the decision was a combination of precaution over an existing injury, and wanting to see how replacement Josh McEachran, a former Chelsea trainee, would handle a pressure situation.
Rosler added: “We take it game by game. I felt very happy with the performance, the application.
“I thought our supporters, they travelled in big numbers. We made them proud, we wanted to make them proud.
“I wanted to compete against the best teams in the country and Cardiff gave us the possibility, and we stood our own ground very well.”
Asked about Solskjaer’s problems, Rosler said: “We are friends and Ole Gunnar is a winner. I said that before the game.
“He knew exactly what he got himself into coming to Cardiff and he can make it happen. He knows exactly what he’s doing and you see already what he tried to achieve in terms of styles of play.
“He wants to attack and he will be fine. I have no worries about that.”

Ole is a typical example of a good player doesn't always make a good manager

this job is quite possibly the most difficult ever taken on mid season.........Malky instilled certain things in this squad ,which to be frank are nowhere near the norm.............i have never ever seen a side so defensive, and tbh very well drilled in doing the slipping in and covering each other and space, to take that squad, all be it with a few additions and play a complete different type of football is not an overnight thing..............this really is not like Monk taking over at Swansea, where each new manager more or less leaves the playing style of the previous manager alone, bar a touch of tinkering..........Ole has to find out who can do what, videos of previous games are of no use.whatever happens happens, but its next year you will find out for real how good..or not so good the fella is

Ole will be sacked when we get relegated at the end of the season. We should never have parted company with Malky - the best Manager we have had in 50 years!

Nonsense OLE to start with you can put up a defensive wall and then have players who have an ounce of desire to block the shot.
Yesterday the team did neither and just offered Watson a free shot at goal.

Thoroughly depressing performance yesterday. It may be a glimpse of the future with attendance of 17k. The decision to stick another tier on the Ninian stand is looking more and more foolish. I went yesterday looking for a morale boosting performance, but left convinced that we are going down. Still in our hands to turn it around, but we are going to need a massive turnaround in performance and confidence. The players play like they know they aren't good enough and I think the poor atmosphere can, in part, be explained by the fact that we also know that in the stands

Pretty much how I felt yesterday. It's not certain yet, but it will take a miracle to stay up now. It feels like a relegation season. All we can do is support the team, and hope that somehow we can escape.

Great player but certainly not Manager material. FFS we would need a resident S.W.A.T Squad

Jesus Christ he hasn't had 10 games in charge yet. Give him a pre-season before you can judge him.

Spot on. Best part is that if we kept Malky and he was given the warchest handed to Ole then I bet we would not be in the bottom 3 now. What I do know for sure is that a Malky side would not have rolled over in the derby match.
