CAPITALISM AS KILLED THE GAME I GREW UP LOVING

Thu Feb 13, 2014 5:40 pm

yes i`m renewing my season ticket because my son still wants to go and for as long as he wants to go i`ll take him .... but if i`m being honest todays football is not the same game i grew up loving ..... the whole thing is just one big rip off governed by the rich to squeeze as much money out of the supporters as humanly possible .... just little things like losing my season ticket card last saturday cost me £10 ... i lost it most probably in swanseas ground while being crushed trying to get food for my 14 year old son .... i took my card to buy him a coat in the club shop and save 10% ... i saved £4 yet it cost me £10 .... i remember alan sugar saying years ago how tv would make clubs so much money that fans would pay next to nothing to watch a game ... obviously he didnt realize that the managers, players and agents would steal it all instead .... football as i knew it as gone to the dogs!

The biggest shame in modern football is that small clubs can go to the wall for the same amount of money that some PL players earn in a month or even week.

The most important customers in football are the tv subscribers. Real fans get taken for granted and fleeced at every opportunity.

Carpeyou ate a really sensible poster! It is about time that government realised who the real customers for football are. The rights of supporters who actually attend games and keep the atmosphere at game a real and traditional should be respected and protected .
We hear too much from the television generation, instant experts with no real history or tradition or sense of loyally to the club they support. They place no value on the history of the game, football experts to a man but they don't know who the first British player to lift the European Cup,was.

Capitalism is ugly.

Makes man ugly and turns humans into pigs.

I now try to avoid news and politics -
Government have u turned yet again, the sheer arrogance.
Trouble is, our political system has no party calling a spade a spade -every one of them
Scoring points off each other and none properly managing things.

I,d watch some TV, but most of it is watching overpaid 'celebs' indulge themselves!
Ooh the arrogance.

I'd watch my favourite team playing my favourite sport, but that too is riddled with businessmen, mercenaries and agents - with some fans turning into rabid hate spewers.
The arrogance and ignorance.
Al the While, the good people and players get shit on.

I've written many times in past.

Football will eat itself.

You got it spot on. The only country that seems to have a clue is the Germans.

The Fans are also to blame, the fans demand success and to bring that a team has to buy the best players.
So the money has to come from some where in order to buy them,so up goes the price of season tickets to pay for it.

Then bring in sponsorship, then our sponsors are brought in by other teams and so it goes on.

They demand success because they have to pay £40 a game let alone the prices of a season ticket. The FA need to control the prices of tickets specially with the large amount of TV revenue and sponsorship they receive. As Bayern Munich say, they earn so much why the need to fleece the fans for more money to watch them.

What an excellent post and spot on. The supporter gets squeezed to feed the insatiable appetite of the club to feed its players pockets.

The fans need to revolt en masse I think. Not sure what the best course of action is, but the away scheme "20 is plenty" where any away ticket is capped at £20 was a good start. Has that been implemented?

I wouldnt say its "killed" the game, but it has certainly made a lot of fans feel disconnected from the club they support. I think it is a major issue that needs to be looked at.

Australia is the same. Everything is about the fans, you get treated like kings.

Most tickets to sporting events are $20 (about £12) and that is in a country where things are more expensive than in the UK anyway, so its probably equivelant to £8.

With any sporting ticket for that day you get free public transport to and from the ground or into the city. The food is excellent and well priced, as is the beer. Lots of freebies on the way in too and great incentives for the fans with ticket deals and give aways. Everything is fan orientated.

Great post.......

I gave my daughter the option not to renew because we will be in the championship, we looked at me in disgust..... Quite proud really, but I find the experience totally sterile
