Several years ago I was told by a football club chairman to be very careful to be very careful with requests from managers as they will ask for more and more in order to keep their jobs.
Malky was very clever as he realized that Tan know nothing about football and was surrounded by people (Steve Borley excluded)that knew even less.
So Malky embarked about a transfer policy of signing players who he know were not good enough for the top flight but were capable of getting promotion. Smith, Connolly, Helguson, Maynard, Gunnarsson, Bellamy, Cowie, etc some on contracts longer than necessary
So basically when we arrived in the promised land we needed a whole new team (Marshall excepted). As we know some of the signings were not up to scratch and we struggled for goals.
Malky may well have kept us up on team spirit alone, like Hull and Palace, but Tan certainly learned the hard way about football managers and transfer policies.
I don¿t think that Malky's next chairman will be so generous

I think your chatting absolute egg.
Malky signed championship players because we were a championship team.
Then we got promoted an didn't know what the f**k to do and spunked a load of money.

But wouldn't have been smarter to sign a few that could make the step up rather than players who have failed at the top level before?

What a load of rubbish. Imagine giving that brief to his scouting team, "right lads I need players who are good enough to get us promotion, but not good enough to keep us up."
Pundit jobs are available on MOTD, you seem like you'd fit in well the team of experts.

Ok Jon S, as one of the worst City signings ever, tell me which Malky signing had a chance of making it in the top grade?

Ye like when he he bought Craig Noone, Jordan Mutch.....................................
Talk so much shit about Mackay but not one of Solksjaer signings has done anything yet, so I would be quiet.

Mutch has surprised me.
Noone has surprised me. Sam Hamman was right there.
People were convince Kimbo would set the premier alive. I wasn't and have been proved right.
I though Turner and Gunnarson were ready but looks like I am wrong.
On the whole we are far from ready.

Jordan Mutch
Craig Noone
Frazier Campbell
Kim Bo Kyung (raving about him last season - on poor form at the moment admitedly)
Joe Mason
Five players off the top of my head which can/have make/made it in the prem

Mason and Kim have done fucall really. Whereas Campbell is a good player I wouldn't say he is prem quality and would get you 10-12 goals a season, which has been proven at previous clubs as well.
So thats Mutch and noone from around 14 mil, well done malky you genius.

That's more than Solksjaers done you rem.
Kim, Mutch, Noone, Campbell, Turner, Taylor, Gunnarsson, Caulker, Medel and more were great signings.
I don't class the players that got us as up 'deadwood' as you probably do, I'm not pathetic.
Until Solksjaers signings have done "fucall", you can't talk shit about Mackays signings, as alot of them have been class.
Some of our best players he bought, which you must be f*cking gutted about

You on drugs fella? Malky had yrs, Ole been here weeks.
Thu Feb 13, 2014 12:19 pm
Mackay had 2 years and inherited a squad of about 10 players when debts made us sell everyone.
I know which situation I'd rather

Kim has had some decent games, just not strong enough. Against Sunderland he was fantastic.
A lot of our players are Prem standard, just missing in a few positions. Campbell needs someone up front with him who will actually run, not just win headers. Turner is good enough for the Prem, just needs a bit of backing, same with Whitts and KTC

Try signing Premiership quality players when your in the Championship on Championship money, you get has been's, never will be's or mercenaries, it's a gamble
Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:41 pm
But he could have signed more players like Mutch and Kim who had the potential to become Premier League players instaed of signing players who are proven not to to be of standard due to age or ability
