A forum for all things Cardiff City

I have been supporting the City for more than 40 years and seen a few relegations and most have brought a tear to my eye (apart from the second Durban fiasco when it was funny) - but this time round, even after this long wait for Division 1, I don't really care.
From the reaction on this board, many others feel the same way.
However, one man who is not sitting there thinking of nice seaside trips to Blackpool and Bournemouth is Vincent Tan.
At least Bolton (who owe approximately the same amount) are owned by supporter, I see the Cardiff situation more like Pompey - and looked what happened to them
Next season could be a lot more interesting than this one........

I think we are shagged if we go down.
As the season goes on I still don't see debt to equity.
That's the most worrying thing in my eyes.

i hope that everyone who is happy to see us getting relegated stays away from this board next season if things arent going well. Afterall, why would you want to do well in the championship if you are happy to not be in the prem? in fact, why support a football team at all?

Turn the table upside down and we're challenging for the title

i agree why do people want us to go down and most are the people who celevrated when tan took us up we are so 2 faced our fans even if we do go down we will have parachute payments to help with wages alot more than pompey and leeds got so i dont think we would be finished but obviously its not ideal most of our players are young and if we did go down should be more than capable of another promotion but as it stands we can still stay up so im not resigned to relegation untill its mathamaticly impossible

I don't care I really don't

Doesn't bother me one bit, last season we used to get a minibus to alot of away games, this season there is no chance as most of the boys struggle to get away tickets.

nicky evans and paulh_85,
I had a season ticket at Ninian Park when we finished 90th in the league so I will always be a City fan.
However, Vincent Tan has not and it will be interesting to see if he has the commitment to fund another promotion challenge

what point are you trying to prove though?
when we were 90th in the league were you wishing we were better?
its one thing saying "no matter if we will get relegated i will support them regardless" and "who really cares if we get relegated"

Fans who want us to go down just want self pride, no pride in their actual football team. Oh look I went to Huddersfield away with 600 other Cardiff fans, instead of standing with 3000 at Old Trafford

Given the players Cardiff brought in I'd say VT recognises that Cardiff will almost certainly go down and has given them probably the best squad going in that league (which judging by who looks to be going up will be very weak again next year).
Of our players, Caulker, Medel and maybe Mutch and Noone will likely go. Marshall is 50/50 obviously a quality keeper but just signed a new deal. McNaughton will probably go and Bellamy will retire. That would leave us with a Match day squad of
Marshall
Fabio Cala Turner John
Kim Eikrem Gunnarson Dæhli
Mason
Campbell
Lewis, KTC, Hudson, Whitts, Cowie, Bergret, Jones,
That's with no new signings and the fact the club probably recoup about £10-13million on players lost
Leaving an excess squad off
Moore
Brayford Connolly Nugent Oshilaja
Harris Kiss Ralls Taylor
Maynard Velikonja
So with no new signings we'd have a pretty decent squad maybe needing another winger and central midfield player and maybe a goalkeeper. Playing better football than we did under Malky with 30million more than QPR got for getting relegated a season in the championship might actually be enjoyable.

Mutch and noone will be going knowhere unless bids of 10 mil + for each of them comes in. we have no need to sell and they will not want to leave. the only players that will leave imo are medel and.caulker bring in 20 mil between them.

I wouldn't mind going down if we were a stable club.

Only worry about getting relegated for me is the debt. Wish tan would write it off

No need to sell? Given the wages Medel and Caulker are likely on we would be unable to play them due to FFP (see Cesar for QPR) so would have to go. Caulker cost 8 and was over priced at then after being ok in the Prem and having a year less on his contract 6 would be pushing it.
Similar for Medel although he has been a bit better, I'd imagine he would go back to Spain costing 9 I think we could recoup 7 at most. But both those estimates maybe pushing it as we would be very keen to get them off the pay roll.
Mutch will have only one year left on his contract and is very injury prone. Which means the club may want to sell. Rather than lose out the summer after for nothing. Noone is more than likely to attract interest from bottom ten/promoted teams so it wouldn't be a shock to see him go.

Caulker 6 million? Behave, Stewart Downing went for 20.

Three years ago and it was roundly believed to be a stupid amount at the time, never mind how it panned out and he was then sold for £5million.
Attacking players generally go for more than defensive players so I'm not too sure what the relevance is anyway. That's before you factor in he cost 8 last summer has a shorter contract and higher wages now than he did then and hasn't exactly set the league alight (only Fulham have a worse defensive record, not his fault entirely but likely to factor into his valuation).
Plus isn't there word Spurs have a buy back option at a cheaper price?

The buy back clause was a rumour - never confirmed
In regards to 'Relegation - who really cares?' Every Cardiff Fan should care, the premier league is the best league in the world and it can only benifit cardiff being in it
I know people talk about the 'glory days' in the lower leagues - but the reality is that its in the past, if we go down we take our debts with us and end up in the same boat as Portsmouth
We need to be fighting for every inch to stay in the premier league as it is looking less and less likely based on recent results.

who cares......................erm check out every clubs crowds......clubs have huge crowds for crunch promotion and relegation games.........so id say most people care what division they are in...i dont remember us having 27k in any other division either.........what a mental thread

Maybe we should have a poll on this.
Can someone oblige and set it up?
