Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fumes over Craig Bellamy suspension as Bluebirds draw blank against Aston Villa

Wed 12 Feb 2014

The Cardiff manager is unhappy he will be without Bellamy for three matches and admits his side need to start winning games

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted his frustration as his Cardiff side drew side drew a blank against Aston Villa - and then fumed as he faces up to a crunch clash against Hull without star Craig Bellamy.

Solskjaer praised the first-half performance against Villa last night, and hailed the saves of David Marshall that earned a first league clean sheet of his reign.

But he acknowledged his Bluebirds must start winning at home if they are to climb to safety as they remained in the bottom three following the 0-0 stalemate.

Solskjaer must take on Hull at home in 10 days’ time without talisman Bellamy after he was hit with a three-game ban for the clash with Jonathan de Guzman in Saturday’s derby defeat to Swansea.

Solskjaer opted against appealing the FA charge that also saw Bellamy miss Tuesday night’s clash as well as being suspended for Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Wigan.

But with Man City’s Yaya Toure escaping punishment for his clash with Norwich’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Solskjaer admitted: “It’s disappointing - one got three games and one gets away with it.

“And I think Craig’s reputation has gone before him. It was a little collision but there was no violence in it.

“We don’t feel it was the right decision and we are sure the ref saw it so we’re not happy with it.

“But we have to accept it because we didn’t want it dragging on. We will make sure he’s ready for the Spurs game.”

But Solskjaer knows City must go for the victory against Hull despite an improved showing from his side against Villa, adding: “We can hold our heads high because it was a good performance.

“We can take encouragement because we had a solid foundation and keeping clean sheets is more vital in this situation because it gives you a chance to win games.

“But you do feel these are games we should be winning because we know it’s at home where we will take the majority of the points we need to stay up.”

Correct Warren, 6pts no more excuses. Ole has had 1 win out of 6 league games so far. Its now wins or say goodbye to the Prem League.

And everyone conveniently forgets Rangel's studs down Zaha's calf which the referee also missed - except Barnett...

Watch it again if you must , it was a kick out rather than a rake down the leg .

See how the results go tonight but we are still in this, we need that little bit of luck in a game what we are not having at the moment :ole: :ayatollah:

Bellamy was an idiot as far as I'm concerned there was no need for his actions. There's no chance of us staying up I'm afraid as we still seem to fade in the last 20 minutes of games and just don't seem to be able to take our chances. A lot will depend on Jordan mutches fitness now but the team to play hull should play against Wigan in my opinion.
Pick your best eleven now ole and stck with it as although I was critical of whitts performance against the jacks you have to question ole's mindset when a player gets taken off before halftime in one match then plays 90 minutes the next game and the doesn't make the squad for the third game.

we just need to keep going boys - if the luck or ball bounces for us then great, if not like last night - hitting post and bar - then we go down and do you know what? We give it a go in the Championship.

Not the end of the world - very disappointing, and I will be gutted if it does happen - but one positive for me is we've had loads of good games in that division, I'm actually looking forward to next season.

Inner calm - unusual for me as I can be a bit of a shouter and singer - but just now we haven't quite got enough quality or luck to get on a run.

Look at the Spammers - 3 wins in a row and they are 10th!!

Totally agree here.

Ole needs to pick his best 11 now until the end of the season. We just do not have the luxury to do the rotation system. Thats all I'm going to say.

Steve, your right in many ways only 1 win in our last 6 has put us in a terrible position, but while the points are there and with teams like Hull C, Fulham and Stoke at home to come, we can still do it and they are all winnable games incl WBA away. We should of beat teams like West Ham and Villa home and Man United away, they were there for the taking, it seems they are to many other clubs.

Ole has to now stick to the same team as you say, no more swopping and changing, 18 players he has used so far, brought 7 new players in, surely after 8 games in charge Ole can finally see who is first 11 should be. Last night we played our best football so far under him, but only for 40 minutes.

Time for no more messing about and lets go for the wins

We should have bust the bank for a proven goal scorer, this is what will send us down, we just cant score a goal let alone goals !!! Also I think Ole is tactically naive and I am afraid out of his depth managing at this level, he needs to re start again next season in a very competitive Championship, also as for new signings and everybody raving on about Dhali, I thought he also looks lightweight and way way out of his depth at this level :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

I wouldnt change that team from last night from here on in except for injuries or suspensions except fro some minor adjustments when playing away. Jordan Mutch is so vital to us

I'm happy that Ole didnt happy with the result.

Our target is the same now as it was at the start of the season, simply to avoid relegation by finishing 17th or above. We are one win away from that position right now, and with the home games we have remaining, we can still stay in this league if we get the rub of the green, although it is obviously going to be tough. I'm sure the players will give it everything they've got (not including Kenwynne Jones), and I will remain optimistic until it becomes impossible to avoid going down. Last night was disappointing, but that point could make a big difference to us come May, and if we stay up, I think we can thank Marshall, who in my view has been the outstanding player of the season so far.

Re: ' Ole Solskjaer Not happy and Admits '

Key Stats
Villa had four more shots than their opponents but registered just one more on target. But the Villans forwards tested Marshall far more than Cardiff’s tested Brad Guzan. As a result Paul Lambert’s also had two more corners than their hosts.

The pass completion rate in this game was poor and Cardiff finished with just 67% whilst Villa didn’t do much better with paltry 70%. This isn’t necessarily to criticise the quality of players on show it just represents how tight the game was with neither side wanting to lose. The tackle success rate was even worse with Villa (42%) narrowly edging Cardiff (39%) out whilst Villa also just shaded possession.
