After securing Marshy to the club till 2018 based on this season's performances how much the do you think the club value him at and would we let him if a bigger club came in for him in the summer. I think he'd break our current transfer record if he did go.
Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:28 pm
No less than £12m, if you ask me. I think he'd happily come down with us...I don't see him wanting to leave just because we aren't in the Premiership
Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:45 pm
1.75 mil

Keepers don't tend to go for that much cash, how old is he?
I'd have him in our team that's for sure.
I know when conceding loads of chances keepers can look better but I do think he's class.
Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:48 pm
At his age now given his CV I really dont think teams would pay big for him.
Im not. Even sure hel leave if we get relegated hes got a nice wage packet and other than palace and another shite scroungy club not very apealing he will most likely stay here
Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:50 pm
10m at least
Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:51 pm
he's not English so wont go for much
Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:16 pm
Since he's not English and he plays for Cardiff, doubt he's worth that much. But he is young, on a long contract and he makes world class saves every week. I'd say teams would bid about £5-6m for him

But what's the contents of your pocket? That's the main question. Also what flavour wotsits? The prawn cocktail ones are worth more surely?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall after an incredible save earned his side a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
In second-half stoppage time, Marshall, moving to his right, somehow changed direction and managed to tip Andreas Weimann's close-range effort behind at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday.
It could prove a crucial save at the end of a season in which Cardiff look destined to be fighting for Premier League survival come May.
And Solskjaer was quick to pay tribute to Marshall, as well as the central defensive pairing of Ben Turner and Steven Caulker.
"I thought it was a goal," Solskjaer told BT Sport.
"But then again you've got David Marshall there so you almost expect him to save it.
"He's been fantastic this season and again he saved us.
"He saved us again but you can talk about Steven Caulker and Ben Turner. They've done a fantastic job, as good a performance as you can ask for."
Turner, who was named man of the match, called on the Cardiff supporters to continue to back the team in their fight to avoid the drop, with the club second from bottom.
"Obviously things haven't been going as well as we want," he said.
"We suffered a disappointing result in the derby, but we need to stick together and we need the fans now more than ever."

You are deluding yourselves if you think he's going to stay here if we go down and why should he? On form and this season, he is the best keeper in the league bar none. Remember he was exceptional last season too. Forster will want to challenge Joe Hart to the English jersey so will come down South this summer leaving Celtic go on and sign Marshall should we go down.
One of Celtic or Rangers will take him when Rangers are back in the SPL anyway, we must try and drum up the price for him now. Club have done well in getting him on a long term contract should we stay up but if we drop it is unrealistic to keep him.

we'd prob get about 2mil max for him. but to us his valuation is 100million. we can't lose him.

Holy mother of christ £12m

I think if you go down, he will join a lowly Prem side for maybe £3m. Hes 29 nearly and has only really showed this form for 6 months. I remember pre season people wondering whether he was good enough for your Prem campaign.

29 is young for a keeper and they tend to have their best years when they enter their 30s. Although I agree £12m is a bit steep

Getting him to sign the contract outside of the window was fantastic.
If he signed it in January, I reckon he could have left.

His value would have to be at least £6m.
Some of his saves this season have been fantastic. He is obviously better than Hart.

Nobody would pay that for him I can promise you. His value is what he would sell for on the open market.
I cant see than being any more than £3m

Luckily we have a mad man with a good credit line so we don't have to sell on the open market

Cant you, he's in the form of his life and could potentially earn a even higher salary at a top club. He'd go but only if we accept an offer, he won't push it.

Depends. If he wants his money back on relegation then everybody is a saleable asset.
However, if you stay up you dont need to sell I agree.

I think he'll finance us for atleast one championship season if we go down.
One season of £20 million losses is a better risk for him than selling everyone for £3mil each and still losing a wad of cash
Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:37 pm
£5million

Tricky one. Cant tell what hes thinking really. You have to ask yourself what he would gain even from promotion - you are on course for a loss this season too, the prem isnt the land of milk and honey as many are led to believe. Is it worth losing £20m when best case scenario is you get promoted and make another loss?
I think he thought he could turn you into a top European club easily with £50m and a rebrand. But football is not a normal business and hes realised the hard way.
Not everyone is worth £3m either. Medel, Caulker and Mutch would command high fees. Turner, Kim, Marshall, Noone, Daeli, Campbell, Whittingham, John and Gunnarson could all receive decent fees.
Say if he gets £40m for all them, £20m parachute payment, £8m season ticket money, sell his shares for £12m and hes got £80m of his £100m back.
He also has real estate in the training ground he can sell as well as setting up long term sponsorship deals prior to selling which would be worth a lot of money too.
He isnt "balls deep" yet. Everything can still be covered. If he had another go to get back up and fails then he is guaranteeing himself a loss.

Who would be willing to pay 12 million for a club with all its income streams mortgaged, its playing staff non existant and no real prospect of fielding a team in the first game of the season let alone aiming for promotion or even avoiding relegqtion.
It would also damage his reputation in the business world.
