Thoughts on Ole from an outsider

Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:09 pm

Hi guys. This is my first post here. I am completely new to the world of Cardiff, so please excuse me if I miss some important historical facts about the club.

The reason I am writing this is that I have read a ton of threads here, and I feel the need to share some of my views on Ole, based on some of the typical comments I see here.

Let's start with: Ole isn't ready for the Premier League

It is true that he is inexperienced as a manager on this level. No one can say anything else. But the question is this: How important is it?

Let's start with the facts: When Ole took over Molde, the club had not won the Norwegian league a single time in more than 100 years. Not a single manager achieved what Ole did twice from the get-go.

Is this a coincidence? Of course not. Yes, the Norwegian league is a lot weaker than the PL, but that doesn't change the fact that Ole's tactical skills and impressive leadership led to this amazing turnaround for the club.

In my humble opinion, Ole is a "special one" in the making. Cardiff has a unique opportunity here. A bit of patience will result in great things for the club, of that I am sure. But you have to bear in mind that you cannot change everything overnight.
As someone mentioned here, comparing his style of play with previous managers is useless. We are talking about a complete redesign of the basic ideas of the way Cardiff is going to play football. At least compared to MM. This takes time and will undoubtably lead to some embarrassing losses during the transission period.

Cardiff is not a club that can pick managers from the top shelf. But here, Cardiff has the opportunity to create one. Believe me, I am not a Molde supporter or a Man. Utd. supporter. But if someone told me that Ole was going to be the manager of my club, I would scream with joy.

There is always sound reasoning behind everything he does, even though it might not seem like it all the time. Take the Swansea match, for example. Did the starting 11 seem crazy? Indeed. But if you actually take the trouble of looking into why he did what he did, you would see that the decision might turn out to be one of the smartest during this whole season.

I wish you all the best of luck tonight, and I really hope you will give Ole the chance to work his magic. Even if it means working your way up to the PL again.

I agree with you mate. I personally think that Ole's biggest problem so far is that he has changed too much too soon.
We have gone from playing with 2 defensive minded full backs and 2 defensive minded midfielders ahead of them (whitts and cowie) to playing with 2 attacking full backs with 2 out and out wingers in front of them pretty much overnight!

This was always gonna create it's own problems. Guys Poyet took a while to implement his style on Sunderland and then they started picking up results.

The transition from Malky's style of play to Ole's is however much bigger than Sunderland's though and I hope the fans can have a bit of ppatience even if this means we are relegated.

He he, funny

By the way, I forgot to mention this: Even though the PL as a whole is a lot stronger than the Norwegian league, the difference between the top 3 Norwegian clubs and the bottom 3 PL clubs is not that big. Molde beat Stuttgart in the Europa league in 2012, for example.
