Tonights Team?

Tue Feb 11, 2014 12:36 pm

I would go 4-4-2:

Marshall

John
Cala
Caulker
KTC

Noone
Medel
Mutch
Zaha

Campbell
Jones

An attacking team, but we are home, we need a win and attack is the best form of defense. I think this is a team that can force Villa back and get goals. I also think with Vlaar out, Jones will be able to get a lot of joy providing flick ons for Campbell to profit off.

There isn't one thread about tonights team on the first page of the forum, so tonights team wasn't being discussed.

Vlaar could return at Cardiff, says Lambert

Ron Vlaar could be back in contention for Aston Villa's Premier League clash against Cardiff City on Tuesday.

That would be a blow as Vlaar is their only decent centre back I think. Lowton and Bertrand are good full backs but Bertrand may be out? I'm assuming they'll have Cieran Clark and Vlaar (if fit) as their centre backs then, which would give them a decent defense on paper. I was hoping Nathan Baker would be playing as he is a liability.

Benteke, Agbonlahor and Weimann will pose a pacey attacking threat and they also have Grant Holt to throw on if they're chasing an equaliser late on. We will need to defend a lot better than Saturday to stop them scoring.

Their midfielders of Delph, Bacuna, Westwood, Sylla and Albrighton gives them plenty of energy and quality, but their midfielders are very lightweight and I can see Jordon Mutch overpowering them and dominating the midfield tonight, especially as he has a point to prove after being inexplicably dropped! Hopefully, Mutch and Medel will win the midfield battle and Campbell and Jones will get the better of their centre backs as I think they can if at their best.

Someone recently replied to move the thread back onto the first page that's why. I don't have the time to be on here 24/7 to look at every thread as I'm currently on my lunch break in work and I have a life outside of work. It seems like it's you who's letting it get to you anyway to bring it up in the first place.

--------Marshall--------
-KTC-Caulker-Cala-Kev-
----------Medel----------
------Mutch--Dæhli------
-Noone-------------Zaha-
-----------Jones-----------

Has to be this. We've only signed Dæhli on a 2.5 year contract and he looks ready judging on reserve matches and against a young Villa team why not give him his chance.
Jones gives us slightly more dimensions than Campbell in my opinion so I'd start with him but wouldn't think twice about playing Campbell up there if Jones is struggling.
Mutch is a must, as is Noone, as is Zaha.
We have to give Cala a chance now as well as its obvious our defence is struggling with Turner and Caulker.
In an ideal world we'd have two attacking wing backs, but at the moment we don't have the players and we shouldn't force the issue. Lets play two good defenders at full back to sure up our leaky defence. Kev and KTC for me.

This is also a pretty well balanced team also i'd say;
Medel holding.
Mutch picking up the ball and driving forward.
Dæhli spreading the ball around and being that creative spark through the middle.
Noone and Zaha terrorising their full backs and Jones to capitalise on their crosses into the box.

For me I see no other way. :ayatollah:

Desperately need Zaha to get match fit. Looked knackered on sat.

Re: Tonights Team?

Marshall

Kev. Caulker. Cala. John.

Medel.

Noone. Mutch. Gunnerson. Zaha.

Campbell.

Gunnerson in only because he's marginally stronger than Kim and whitts.
Need strength there as Norwich and jacks waltzed through us.

That's hardly 15 then is it? OTT to say the least. The OP wanted to start a thread about the team so what? It's posters like you that get on my nerves, jumping all over it with your silly comments.

Agree with most of what you say.

Would change to Campbell up front.

With Gunner, Cowie and others on the bench.

We have to be smarter when the opposition have the ball, for us to disrupt their build up with the aim of gaining possession.

Campbell, with Noone and Zaha would be a very effective first line of defence and this would have been my set up for the Swansea (with Bellamy playing instead of Noone).

Cowie would be available to strengthen the midfield if we are being over run in that area.

Mutch, Cowie and ( Medel maintaining his positional formation and not going AWOL ) would be a great second line of defence, along with having a creative element in there too.

IF KTC or any right back went forward, then Cowie would always be there to cover.

Again he would have been in my starting line up against the Jacks, disrupt their natural game of possession and time on the ball, giving them poorer quality possession with the aim of a turnover.

We need to get the defensive, attacking, positional shape and ball retention balance correct.
With that in mind we then have the pace and creativity up front to do something with our possession.
