Craig Bellamy has risked a three-game ban after appearing to punch Swansea City’s Jonathan De Guzman in the south Wales derby on Saturday.

The Cardiff forward clashed with De Guzman in the second half of his side’s 3-0 defeat and the FA confirmed on Sunday that they are aware of the incident.

If it is established on Sunday that referee Andre Marriner did not see the punch, then the FA will decide if it is necessary to refer the issue to a three-man disciplinary panel, who in turn will decide if a charge of violent conduct is warranted.

The incident spoiled an impressive performance from Bellamy in an otherwise miserable day for Cardiff.

The 34-year-old is likely to retire in the summer, but Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will attempt to persuade him to change his mind.

Solskjaer said: ‘Craig can definitely go on beyond this season. His body is in good shape, there’s no fat on him and he looks after himself – so it’s all about how long he wants to play football.

'He knows when he needs a rest. I was like that, the older you get you know what you need.’

I've met Craig and I like him, he's spirited and must be a nightmare to play against. Just think it was a heat of the moment thing, but he should have known, with the number of camera's about at these matches, it would be unlikely to go undetected.

In Craig's defence on tv they showed it from behind and his hand is nowhere near de Guzman . It looks like he try's to put his arm over his shoulder as they run to get I front of him and catches him with his elbow not a fist .

There was no punch that picture was just stilled to make it look worse , but when you raise your arms like that you run the risk of catching someone and getting a ban .

It wasn't a kick but he did step on his achilles. I think it was in the 2nd minute but not a red card for me yellow at worst.


Bellamy on the other hand is a Red and he will no doubt get a 3 game ban.

This. Ever since Bellamy's come back in the team it's been me me me me me. Whereas throughout the season we've done okay just without him, we have no figureheads in this team ATM bar Hudson who hasn't been playing

He did clap us after the whistle I was there a made note of him doing it because did wonder if he would after last week

Unlikely to amount to anything, as the referee saw it and had a very good view, so cannot be taken any further for retrospective action

That was the highlight of the game for me.

Craig Bellamy could be handed a three match retrospective ban by the FA with them currently review footage of the Cardiff strikers actions against Swansea on Saturday evening.

I've already said that his forearm bash on Jonathan de Guzman was the side of his game that we don't want to be seeing as he's still got plenty to offer us but if he were able to escape without a suspension being dished out it would be a surprise.

Then again this is the FA we're talking about so anything is possible.

I think it's important that as fans we don't show double standard here, Bellamy didn't 'throw a punch' as some areas of the media have described it but he needlessly put a forearm out at de Guzman and if it had been de Guzman doing that to Bellamy we'd be crying out for action to be taken.

Should Bellamy have to serve a three match ban then he'd deserve it and wouldn't only be letting himself down he'd be letting us down as we'll end up being without such an influential presence when we desperately need it as we look to escape the Premier League relegation zone.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Aston Villa, Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects to have Craig Bellamy available - despite a possible FA action

It has been reported that the FA could take retrospective action on the retired Wales international after the alleged incident at the Liberty Stadium – if referee Andre Mariner stated in his report that he had missed the incident.

But Solskjaer played the incident down, saying: “It was nothing.

“If I went down like that my dad would tell me off.

“The referee saw it.

“They ran into each other.

He did not punch anyone that still photo just makes it look like he did, I saw that from the front and his fist was no where near guzman , he will not get banned , the FA will see all angles of the incident, and for all you lot, why don't you stick to having a go at the other teams players not our own, unbelievable
