Were players rested yesterday?

Sun Feb 09, 2014 1:37 pm

A loss away at the Jacks, disappointing, but did we honestly expect a win there given the history of the tie?

Were players like Noone rested ready for the 2 very important home games coming up? Im not saying the game was thrown but Ole was just ensuring players were 100% for the game on Tuesday in a very winnable game at home.

Had we a whole week before the next game I believe Mutch and Noone would have started but we didn't have that so I believe they were rested for the home game on Tuesday.

Come on, given that no team has done the double in the derby, it was a massive ask to go away from home and win it. I didn't expect to win it, more heart in a derby game would have been nice, but the result, albeit the margin of victory wasn't, was expected. I lived in hope we could scrape a win but I expected the Jacks to collect the 3 points on their own turf.

I expect Noone and Mutch to definitely start on Tuesday. Mutch just had a knock and Noone is arguably one of our brightest sparks. An injury to him would be devastating and we need him in these vital home games.

We now have the likes of Noone and Mutch in top condition ready to go at Villa on Tuesday whilst they probably played their strongest side yesterday. A win vs Villa and results going our way and the whole outlook changes completely.

How noone and Mutch didn't start is mad

They have to start Tuesday and we need minimum 4 points in the 2 home games

Exactly mate. The only way it can be explained is they were kept to be deployed 100% fit for Tuesday's game. Its the only logical explanation for the decision.

According to the very rich bookies we have more chance of beating Villa at home than Swansea away....

Noone can't do 90mins so forget 3 games in 7 days.....

An away game to relegation rivals isn't the time to be resting players. Our players should be fit enough to last a premier league season. Especially players like noone and mutch who are used to playing in the championship where they would regularly play 3 games in 7 days and over 50 games a season.

Did you sleep through last season Mutch is about as fragile as butterfly wings......

Noone is dead on his feet after 75 mins.

Yesterday was about as good as we are. The Jacks have massively under performed this season, the new manager syndrome plus a guy the British players want at home.

This season was about hoping there were three worse teams than us, there may not be, but we are not dead yet. Its the hypocrites on here who blame the players for lacking passion and fight whilst showing absolutely nothing of those qualities......

Players fitness can be improved and they should always be in prime condition if they're not injured. If the fitness of our players isn't good enough - that is an issue for the fitness coach. All players are capable of being fit for a full season if treated correctly. Unless our best players are injured or suspended they should not be rested. Especially in derby matches against relegation rivals. We need to be picking up maximum points and yesterday was a game we could have got at least a point if we performed. Swansea weren't special - we were shocking.

Van Persie used to be "like a butterfly" arsenals fitness team and physios worked on him and all of a sudden they had a 25 goal a season striker. If people are doing their jobs properly players will be able to last a full season (injuries aside).

Resting players.....what a lot of shite, they weren't up for it end off.

Anyone see Hazard's performance on Monday night, then yesterday...... a rest bollox!

Passion is what is needed and plenty of it, guts for the fight, do we have it?.....doubt it!..... modern football me thinks!

Home grown players certainly help, we do have Bellamy who calls his own fans fuckin wankers 'allegedly'

I constantly see Scottish football slagged off on here, but at least there is passion there.......

I remember Graham Souness' first game in charge of Glasgow Rangers, 21 man scrap in the centre circle.... not ideal but a passion to win!

We need to raise the bar gents, us fans can......can the players, and manager?.......doubt it :old:

Given the number of points we win at home v away, as well as the history of yesterday's game, I think your analysis of the Mutch and Noone situation is spot on. Two home wins now please!

Agreed. If we fail to collect anything less than 4 points I will not be happy. For now, Ole gets the benefit of the doubt from me.
