Declan John - A Bale in Disguise?

Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:23 pm

Dont get me wrong by immediatley clicking this thread ready to flame me thinking im gonna say that John could be the next Bale or as good as him because im not.

What im thinking is after watching him is he really a LB player? Whenever i see him play hes always up front trying to get runs on the ball towards goal, or trying to help the others get towards goal. Now im no footballer but im pretty sure a LB is meant to stay back?

Ok hes more of an Ashely Cole type player always darting forward but would it benifit John by doing what Bale did and switch from LB to LM or LW? It seems it may sort of suit him more than being LB, and who knows by doing so like Bale did he may be better than he thinks and could be the making of him?

He used to play LW but Malky moved him to LB. Seems like a bizzare decision given his desire to get forward constantly. You're right, I think he would be more suited to playing LW.

Whats bothering me is not the fact hes coming forward all the time, at least hes trying unlike the rest of the team, its if hes coming forward and ending up down by the oppositions goal trying to help out the midfielders and strikers whos in the LB position if they counter attack us? Its leaving us wide open.

Has OGS not noticed how much this kid loves coming forward and going at teams? Move him position and see what comes.

Its blatently obvious hes not a LB, we could have used him before we had Zaha to cover our left going forward. Or still can, rotate between John and Zaha and our Left is pretty sorted. Just needs to find our best player who covers LB.

Can't defend for shit. Good lad and looks very talented but not what we need right now. Certainly not in Bale's class

He's gone from striker, kw and lb. I think OGS Likes the fbs to overlap John ha the pace for it. In experienced at LB should try him on the wing instead of whitts still young to be fair

Read the first sentence of the thread. I didnt say he was the next Bale. I said he would be more suited to playing LM or LW rather than LB. Funnily enough, exactly like Bale. Do u know ur football or just the towns the players come from?

dont be so harsh on urself, next time take the time to read whats being said before posting and you wont look so stupid next time. :ayatollah:

But remind me, how is it stupid exactly? Its a fair thread if u ask me because its true. But then u only know where players come from, not what they actually do so it may be pointless asking u.

Youre not comparing to Bale yet you took it upon yourself to nane Bale in the title thread

Just call a spade a spade and say Declan John is not a full back. Yes hes better on the attack but s he bettter than Zaha orcNoone? Bo.

Is he anywhere near Bales standard? Noooo. Not even when Bale was 16;

Drama Queen.

Problem is, who do we then put at LB? Connolly or Taylor? Not sure if they'd be up for it. I think Fabio can play LB but then again he's been making some defensive errors too. Wish we were good at scoring early and putting a second in before conceding, would make defence a bit less of a worry

Putting age to the side I would struggle to think of many worse left backs in the league Had a discussion with some West Ham fans who stated that they thought he was one of the poorest player they had seen play this season He is not a defender in a million years His talent is as a winger and always was as a youngster
As a boy who has come up through the academy we all want to see him succeed but he is not what we need at this moment I am afraid to say

Even the best of defenders can make a mistake.
He is young and is learning his trade against better players.

The problem we have is that this should be done in reserve / development games and not in the first team.

It's time for experience in the back line.
We also need to start defending from the front.
No pressure on the ball cost us the first goal. Yes Fabio not tight enough but the pass was 1st class and midfield should have stopped the pass.
2nd goal yesterday was from what I saw, offside in the build up. Not seen a replay yet.
3rd goal was great movement by a striker. It happens.

The real problem from yesterday was the lack of goal scoring chances for us.
If we make a few more, and hopefully take some, then the defending will become easier.
